My mental image is the placeholder with bioluminescent eyes, pure white or grey-ish skin and possibly really short white or purple hair. (Obviously adorably messed up thanks to her helmet )
Ears, I don't care. (As long as they're not blatantly space elf-ish)

But I can deal with pretty much anything.

Mandibles inside that helmet is lol-worthy.

I'm sticking with "an aesthetic design of the helmet" since if you look at the male quarians, they are thin but long, so I assume they design them that way to show off their manlyhood.

well the Turians have some the same fetuers as the Predator like mandibles and the head fringe looks like stiff dreadlocks which is scary when you think about it.

How come? They wouldn't have to extend that much further than our cheeks/jaw would when retracted.

Well, we don't know since we haven't seen them. It would be weird to have lips AND mandibles, so it's uhh what's the word...highly improbable.

Well, it's why there's so much concept of her with mandibles. It's cute, but impractical.

Look at the design of helmets in earth's medieval ages, there's way more accessories than is needed, for intimidation or w/e.
