i know not EXACTLY like that but you people have to be realistic
i know her personality is just amazing, but to really be the perfect girl she has to be pretty too! i agree someone posted that turians look attractive to females and if bioware manged to pull that off with tali id be more than happy

Actually, I think Garrus is a classic example of how women will look at different characteristics of attractiveness than men. His voice is commonly mentioned as an attraction. His face has very symmetrical lines. His eyes are a piercing color. But if someone met a turian in real life, I think we have a case of getting to know the personality before physical attraction takes hold.

I agree for me it was moreso her personality and the depth that it could bring to the games that caught my eye.
Unlike my friend whos first thought was LOOK AT DEM HIPS!!!!

One idea I had a while ago is that if her eyes were bioluminecent, that it would function much like a lantern fishes light; which actually ties in rather well with quarian leg structure seeming to indicate being derived from ambush predators (DAT POUNCE). This may also indicate that Rannoch is either kinda dark, or they're originally nocternal.

Of course, it's really easy to test this theory. Show of hands, who got lured in by the bright lights behind the mask? *raises hand*

That is a very original, and somewhat believable theory.
Though I always assumed the logic of the fact that the geth are based upon them, and they've got light emitting eyes too. (I could elaborate a bit further upon this, but it really comes down to just that)

You underestimate the James T. Kirk School of Interspecies Cultural Relations (where I got my Masters). Long story short, Garrus is hot.

I've always wanted to make Tali look as alien as possible. The asari were already a bit much on the human-likeness scale for my liking. Of course, there's that article where the developers describe creating Thane, where they pretty much admit that developing an attractive female interest for the guys was a bit more simplistic. I've always wondered if they could have gotten away with a design like the turians and still manage the pro-romantic fanbase that they did with Tali.

I think they certainly could. Miranda actually has a face, and curves in abundance. If people are rejecting her, that seems to imply that appearance is not all people are caring about.

It's easy to go with 20/20 hindsight and say you'd like Tali no matter what she looks like, that it's a her personality that you love. You'll have to forgive me if I'm a bit skeptical in this regard.

I'm not sure you're referring to me or collectively to the thread or fans as a whole. Really, before I say anything else, this is a video game, and it's just a video game character. I may - naturally - have some reservations about having relations with someone I genuinely find hideous, but those are real people, not game characters. I can do things in video games that I may find noticeably easier than in real life.

Some of the Garrus fangirls actually think or thought that Garrus was ugly, but other aspects of him are why they like the character and enjoy romancing him. In light of that, I don't think we can prematurely judge the Tali fans as going to be exponentially different.

I personally was not drawn to the character because of outward appearance. I actually didn't think of her as that interesting or appealing until I actually spoke to her on the Normandy. I liked Tali's intelligence, spunkyness, quirkyness, selflessness, and determination. I liked how she belonged to a rather destitute race instead of some Mary Sue race like the Asari.

I liked that there were several layers to her character - and I had fun finding all of them. For other characters, like Jack or Miranda, you are force fed their nuances. They are very simpler to understand because in many ways, you are explicitly and literally told what they are.

So yea, I care about the personality most. There are sometimes I do care about appearances when it's like Miranda's ridiculous outfit or something - but I never really let that overshadow my actual opinion of the charcter itself.

Anyways, this is dragging on a bit.

I'm not so much into this "find the purpose behind that look" because I think that the majority of her body was designed to look attractive, cool and alien. We're probably putting more thoughts in it than the artists did. :P

I'm not sure what the obsession is with trying to make Tali look as inhuman as possible without the mask on, especially considering the information already available. They have a physical structure strong resembling humans, they're said to be mammals, and clearly don't have mandibles as its rather hard to make kissing sounds with those. The Codex clearly states that they're omnivorous.

Now some features could make sense. Light fur or hair, possible, going off the insect idea. Though it seems the implication is Rannoch worked on a more viral/bacterial level, using the native creatures immune systems to spread genetic material.

Dude. They did manage to take the turians and get the fanbase equivalent to Tali. Or close, rather, what with there being a slight deficiency in vocal women on this forum, but trust me: they're on the Garrus thread. They're also on deviantArt, Fanfiction.net, and if you've ever looked, roughly three-quarters of the masskink meme on LiveJournal.

Well, as I've already said, what a woman finds attractive does diverge from what a male finds attractive. In stereotype. From lurking in this thread, you guys haven't really proved otherwise to me.

Are you comparing Tali's eyes to that of an angler fish's predatory apendage?

I approve B)

That's pretty much the only thng they can eat when they're outside the flotilla. Purified turian paste works too.

I think their diet at this point is completely manufactured, designed simply to provide the nutritional needs of their bodies without too much concern of where it came from. Though I can imagine a market for those who provide such a diet while at least trying to inject the flavors that are desirable by quarian standards. Hmm, a diet that tastes like Reese's peanut butter cups all the time without the side effects of sugar overload...

Still, I think 300 years is too short a time for their evolution to actually eliminate the more omnivorous aspects of their design. Could be that they were more along the lines of fruitarians, though, as that is also another means of plant seed dispersal. Oh, but I'm sure advances in sewer design might have put a kink in that...

Anyway, still think the quarians like a good space cow steak now and then. Even my vegetarian friend hovers his nose over my steak to breathe in the aroma.

Well, no, what I said before is simply mentioned in Ascension, they've got food tanks and batches aboard their liveships that hold different kinds of vegetables and algea, which are ground into nutrient paste.
Though I'd argue that they would indeed add certain vitamins, minerals and proteins to that, to ensure a healthy diet.
They'd also have to make sure that there's as little solid waste excretion as possible.

Obsession? Really, that's not what I'd call it at all. I've really only seen a few people here besides me want the Quariasn to look more alien like. For my part, the reason why I'd like to make them "inhuman" looking is because they're aliens.

I think Miranda does have a larger appeal than what we find in this forum.

I don't mean to say appearance is all men care about. But appearance will tend to be the initial attractant. Yes, for women, too. I just think it is of larger importance to men from a social evolutionary standpoint which I can certainly tell you would cause nothing but a flamewar if I get into it here. Someone needs to redirect my attention to something else quarian.

That was also a Twilight Zone episode.

Suspended in time and space for a moment, your introduction to Miss Tali Zorah, who lives in a very private world of darkness, a universe whose dimensions are the size, thickness, length of a protective mask that covers her face. In a moment we'll go back into this room, and also in a moment we'll look under that mask, keeping in mind, of course, that we're not to be surprised by what we see, because this isn't just a spaceship, and Miss Zorah is not just a quarian. This happens to be the Twilight Zone, and Miss Zorah, with you, is about to enter it.
