The very first time I even bothered to talk about Tali, it had to do with creating an alien quality to her. I got called far worse than a retard. I thought I just had the most unpopular sentiments about the character, so it's interesting to see others with similar viewpoints in the Tali thread, at least in regards to her looks.BTG_01 wrote...
Just my opinion, I know others disagree; one guy called me a retard before for suggesting it.
Maybe one day I'll try to discuss what I really think about quarians taking back their homeworld. Think it would be like going into the Jack thread and saying Jack should have hair, though.

This is very true in most respects. There have been numerious times for me personally when i have gotten the you are a wonderful guy and any girl would be blessed to have you, But i don't want to lose you as a friend.

The Mirandas and Jacks of the real world... I've become friends with both sorts, but I can certainly tell you it wasn't on first impression. Or second or third impressions either.Throw_this_away wrote...
2. Personality. From the start Tali is sweet, friendly, innocent, virginal, loyal, and she has an obvious crush on sheploo in ME2. Who doesn't want that? We are all nice guys... and people tend to like other nice people. Miranda is arrogant and tells you off. Jack tells you off with a series of 4 letter words. Both have been around the bend quite a bit which is a turn-off to modest nice-guy types. Both Miranda and Jack are more loving once you get to know them... but for many, they burn their romantic bridges due to their ethics and dialogue early in the game.
Some of Tali's mannerisms in ME2 I think are transplants from Liara's personality. Everything used to describe Tali here could easily translated to Liara from ME1. That's actually part of what irked me about Tali's character in ME2, why I prefer to push her at arm's length. I'd rather have talked about engines. What's it take to turbocharge that ship?
I dated a girl very mich like Miranda. Never hung with the Jack crowd however.
Agreed to the similarities of ME2 Tali to Liara's character. They needed a "nice girl" to give some LI variety (to balance Jack's bad girl, and Miranda's in-between). They wanted someone to appeal to everyone. Tali's personality appealed to most for obvious reasons.
That is why Liara was more popular than Ashley in ME1. Ashley would make comments like "I can;t tell the difference between the animals and the aliens". Liara was just cute and friendly, and inexperienced and enamored over shep.

I liked that they developed Liara's character, because she sorely needed it, more so than any other ME1 squad mate. Liara took an odd direction, but her character has become more nuanced and interesting from it.Pacifien wrote...

I kinda don't wanna get into this now. When the comparisons start, that is. It's difficult to relate, so we tend to put more human characteristics on them, when quarians, humans, and asari are all completely different.

not read the comics. However, it has made the Liara character at the
very least a little bit compelling for me. I get to see conflict within
her character that does not lie solely within her romance.

Better probably to think about what makes for a good Tali comic book story. Or quarian. The Cerberus Daily News did a fine job of showing us a different side of Turians with the scuffle on Taetrus as well.
