Though I've never cared about sex for purposes of reproduction. I see it as more of something two people can share, where you open up and trust one another. Probably why I like BDSM...

So, the intrinsic value is more important to me. Probably why I don't care if it's quarian, turian, or whatever else have you. The only that means anything to me is if I trust and care about the person enough to want to share that with them.

The asari are keen on focusing on relationships on other races to enrich genetic diversity even though it can be done "with radiation," to show that they don't care about it. Which shows they lean more towards procreational sex with other races, even recreational. The asari are the only other race aside from humans who are so open about intimacy, that it was a perfect fit.

And not everyone wants that.

I would add the the Krogan are not above sexual intercourse with other species, but it's not taken as seriously as mating with one of their own. Sex outside of the krogan population is mostly only for pleasure; a few examples to the contrary not withstanding as there are always exceptions to the rule.
