Always considered the knife simply a practical device. Doesn't mean it can't gain significance from events, but its funciton is purely pragmatic. Not everything has to be symbolic after all.

Besides, Gibbs rule #7: Never go anywhere without a knife.

This.  I hesitate to give everything ritual significance.  Having a knife on your leg can be very useful thing when you're sent out alone into a world that doesn't have a high opinion of you.

Same reason our soldiers carry combat knives. Yes they can be used as a weapon, and they're trained to use knives as weapons to an extent, but its mainly there for your normal knife duties.

EDIT: Top. Dunno who made this, but its one of my personal favorites:

That's what the C-Sec officer thought about that Turian's knife too. You humans are all racist!
No, but seriously, I agree.

If Tali went to the Citadel alone, I think she'd be brought in for another round with C-Sec, like in ME1.

Possibly, yea.

I stick with it's a familie heirloom and a weapon at the same time.

I'm actually curious how C-sec would react to Tali by the time ME2 is over. I guess it depends on how much actual press she got as part of Shepard's team.

Yeah I'd agree more with this. The only reason I'd think she'd use it in combat is in an incredibly desperate situation. I mean, she does have a shotgun, pistol, several tech attacks and a drone to make use of.

Hey guys, I have a question regarding the Flotilla. I'm writing a chapter where one of my characters is going to have her back-story expanded upon, and I want her to have some dead-beat father who she feels obligated to make up for, hence her extremely serious/dedicated/zealotistic work ethic. Now, I don't want her father to have been exiled, since Tali said in ME2 that its been awhile since someone was exiled. I remember it being mentioned in either a game or a book that the Flotilla will sometimes "forget" the more dead-weight members of their crew on planets they passed, would using this be kosher?

So...new topic to discuss?

Tali's thoughts and views on the Genophage.

she sympathizes with the krogan as like them other species have mistreated and screwed over quarians

I think she dislikes how frequently and pointless the Krogans fight with eachother.

Well, very few knows what Shepard % Co did, so...why would it change at all?

The people's image is about Shepard, not his team.

She's just another quarian to them.

Hmmm...

Seems a bit harsh, but I think it could be plausible, seeing as in ME1 the pilgrimmage is said to be a way to show that a quarian will contribute to the community and not simply be a burden upon its resources.

Yes, it is harsh, but I'm kind of going for that. Tali worked so hard at what she did because her father was an Admiral and she wanted his respect, Regala is working so hard at what she does because she feels like she has to serve the Flotilla twice, once for her father and once for herself.

Bah, the Council human or alien more or less destoried everything that Shepard stood for so why shouldn't they cover everthing up about his team mates.

i remember the first time i overheard that conversation i stopped to listen and as she got to "let me turn it on" i got all interested and then she said something along the lines of "this is a private conversation"
so i reloaded a save and started listening to the convo again from 20 feet away and she says the same thing again. needless to say i was pissed :pinched:
