They lock this thread because it gets too big and they fear that the large size may cause board instability. It's actually right in their "site rules", saying they'll lock threads if they get too big.

Unfortunately, this thread gets "too big" in just a matter of days. Unless they are going to set up a "bot" or daemon to monitor the forum and automatically lock the thread at a set number of posting, I think its just too much trouble for them to do so. Besides, thread 3.0 proved that the boards is able to handle 5,500 pages of posts so ....no reason to lock this thread before 4000 I'd think.
