That's why I'd prefer a romace "dlc" to be more akin to a "Romance Expansion". Something like say DA:O's expansion in size, with a real emphasis on telling a story / continuing the story of Shepard and his LI.
In Tali's case, since you have to have helped her and not used the evidence smearing her father's name to be able to romance her, it could start with a recall notice for Tali to return to the migrant fleet to take up respondsibilities as an admiral. Tali would of course refuse sparking an outcry against Shepard as the human who corrupted one of the Quarian's best.
Throw in oodles of political intrigue, choose the path towards "peace / war" in regards to the war with the geth, which would equate Shepard either fighting lots of geth and / wild life in search of a new / temporary home for the Quarians and in the process earn more then just passing respect from the Quarians.
Factor in a possible solution for Tali's / Quarian Immune system that can be used later in ME3 as well as getting to explore the Migrant fleet more and perhaps saving a few ships (or a faction within the fleet) and I think that there's more then enough to tie us over till ME3 yes? Or till another expansion.
Doesn't that seem a little too story heavy for DLC? Pretty much all DLC is fluff/background story wise. You're cutting a huge percentage of people out of big plot related stuff. I just can't see them doing that. What you list there is more likely to be the extent of Tali's involvement in ME3
That's also a ridiculous amount of content assuming this is a romance pack, for 6 different people, not just Tali. I don't want to have to pay 25 dollars personally.
I still think the best way to implement romance DLC is to have you and you're LI have some dialogue somewhere regarding something like Shep's and their background. Maybe even make it open up after the suicide mission, and you can actually have them discuss their relationship as it grows instead of it ending in an awkward dialogue loop.
Add in some awesome lines by Tali, and an enemy or two. I would buy it.
That's too much.
For a full expansion, I'd say about $30.00 is the right price.
@ phil
Story heavy is precisely the point. While I do understand sure the above "wish list of to dos" is rather huge its something that I had thought about as to how Bioware could continue to "develop" how Shepard and Tali could grow in their relationship and how that relationship effect both the game and the people affected by their romance.
Though if anyone could give some life to the other LIs, its Bioware. But you are right, Tali's has a huge advantage in that department.
Anyways, that is what I'd like to see, not silly cosmetic DLCs but rather, a full story laden expansion.
I'd pay $30.00 for that.
@goat
Thanks bro.
Wished I had written it all down when I had the chance though. The "above" was really something I thought of in terms of a "fan fic" but as I have admitted before, I can't write really big pieces / novellas anymore. Does not stop me from thinking up crap though. Since being an admiral is more then just randomly pointing a direction for the fleet to go. Tali and Shepard has to learn some basic fleet maneuvering / space naval combat rules. ("Close in and finish them off!" *face palm* Shepard you dolt!)
The other LI's especially Jacob suffers from stories that are unfortunately not as well written nor as laden with potential. Hello Migrant Fleet, search for a new / way to retake old home, political backstabbing? Yup, Tali's "story" is so heavily stacked against the others its no joke.

Well, yeah, I was avoiding saying that outright, but the fact that there are so many pitfalls regarding Tali goes back to mixed feelings from Bioware.
I don't know about not trying to spoil it. Why have her in there at all if you aren't going to spoil it? Also, if you're catering to people on the internet 5 days before release looking for info on the game, do you really worrying about spoiling things like that? At that point, you've already spoiled that Tali is a character in the game again, why not go all the way and find out if she's romanceable? It isn't like you're going around spoiling it for everyone, just people specifically looking for the info.
False info doesn't seem like a very good idea. That's a good way to tic off legions of people when the reason they bought the game was a lie
Mixed feelings? Explain.
And I mean they were teasing us with Talimance. Showing Miranda's bewbs = main LI. Showing Samara in the trailer at all = false information.

Don't get me wrong, I understand perfectly why Tali doesn't show up in marketing and stuff like that. Her character just isn't marketable to anyone except people who already played the first game (marketing for ME2,) and those people are going to buy ME2 anyway. It's more of a question of why they don't capitalize on her popularity now.
I was very surprised with Tali's involvement in the launch trailer for that reason. Moreso because a day or so before that was out, they released the romance trailer, in which Samara was plastered all over it, with Tali getting half a second of screen time. I'm still not sure that Tali specifically being involved in the launch trailer was any big sign. They could've done the same thing with any character to have a similar marketing effect. It could be as simple as Tali is the likely one to be in that scene.
You mean Tali is most likely to be falling to her death needing to be saved? I resent that remark <_<
Funny thing, that romance trailer. I think maybe they were trying not to spoil the romance. If I were Bioware I'd release all kinds of false (but not bad) info about the game. I'm very happy Bioware didn't spoil the Talimance for me...Kelly did.
Well, yeah, I was avoiding saying that outright, but the fact that there are so many pitfalls regarding Tali goes back to mixed feelings from Bioware.

Full expansion is different than DLC, yeah. I was more talking about a 5-10 dollar dlc, that would give people something to talk about in a few months when interest in ME2 is all but gone. Wouldn't be anything substantial, just a talking point before they start drumming up interest for ME3.
Honestly, I don't know much about expansions, but the stuff you describe seems more fitting for ME3. Why do you have to squeeze in a bunch of extra stuff in between games when you have a sequal coming out in a year? You could always save the romance expansion for after ME3 if the game ends with the defeat of the reapers. There could be plenty of content for that.

Any possible romance DLC is going to have to be Shep-centric rather than LI-specific. Something exploring the different Shep backgrounds would be far easier than something for each specific LI.Archonsg wrote...

This is going to come off sounding fanboyish, but the mixed feelings comes from Tali always having the best lines and stuff like that. Its all opinion really, but you can make the best case for Tali being the canon romance, and her romance and loyalty mission seem to have more effort put into them than the others.
On the other hand, she gets no marketing, there's no merchandise for her, and she's the easiest to kill on the suicide mission.
And the trailer was only showcasing the women of ME2 I believe. I don't think there was any specific mention of those being romanceable characters. People may have assumed, but that's different than false info.

I thought it was called "The Romance trailer"?
Anyway, I completely understand that. Like Shazz said, she's not a sex symbol like Miranda and Samara, yet she seems to be the canon choice (I say that lightly, since I know many many people who don't even know Tali is a LI) but regardless, she has the most dialogue, interesting background, you can't fit her whole loyalty mission in a quick trailer (although they tried). You need to experience Tali in the game, the epicness is lost in a trailer.
Still a shame because people will avoid her in game because she's nowhere to be found in marketing (besides an action figure)
