My problem with the (fan art, not BioWare placeholder) face is that it's too human. It looks more human than an asari and, if anything, I expect Tali looks more alien than Liara - not that Liara looks particularly weird or anything.

I agree, I'd like Tali to look more alien than the Asari. That doesn't mean she has to be unattractive, I just want the Quarians to be more unique, because the Asari already have the "near-human" title. One of my favorite interpretations is this:

How can this possibly need explanation?

It was to convey "Really?"

Actually yes I have, which is why I am confused as to why Tali's mask came off with a simple tug.

I guess Tali did prepare for the night.

The mask, like others have said, was probably loosened because she planned on revealing her face to Shepard that night.

Well this would probably apply more to kal'reegar but: In combat, movements aren't exactly...smooth usually. They would need to secure it so that the mask would not come off from a nearby explosion, accidentaly bumping it, etc.

Have you ever worn a gasmask before? They don't come off easily, so I am sure that a mask such as the quarians use would not come off by simply jostling it.

You didn't hear the beep or the pneumatic hiss?

I dunno. How come there there isn't anything on the extranet about what quarians look like; no pictures or videos or. . .something. You would have thought that someone at some point would have taken a photograph.

What gives you impression that there isn't? If you're talking about the bartender, she's basically just saying "no one remembers what the Quarians look like" figuratively.

Not just the bartender, although that's part of it.
I'm also going off of what that quarian girl in Illum was saying when she was repeating what her ex was saying to her, something along the lines of "'Oooh! I wonder what she looks like under her helmet'"

Now, I suppose that could be about her specifically, but I always got the impression that what quarians look like is this. . .big mystery now.
Or maybe I just think that because we don't know.
Not sure.

Salvation through destruction laughable.

Destruction is another act of creation.

True, allows new life to develop, but since intend to destroy those as well in ten thousand years, doesn't save anything at all.
Therefore, am dismissing that theory!

Just stating philosophical quips.

This is the most likely possibility. She probably undid some clamps or something along with taking the immuno-boosters and such.

I always kinda imagined that there's like, two buttons you need to press simultaneously on each side of the mask for it to unlock.

I did, but that was just it coming off, I am wondering about the existence of a locking mechanism.

Not sure.

It's her specifically.

The codex entry on Fornax says it's run features on quarians.

It's pretty much inconceivable that the extranet would not have it. The extranet has been around for thousands of years. The Quarians did not begin to live in suits until 300 years ago.

Not impossible. Helmets for human/asari armor just as constricting. Didn't stop Ash.

I must disagree.  The forehead nostrils are especially upsetting.  The sickly color makes sense, but that kind of contradicts with Tali's personality.

The more people argue about the alien v.s human look, the more I think Tali will look like a space elf :P

I'm positive that in ME2, you can go to space-google, and type in "quarian no suit" and get like a thousand images.

Hell, Fornax says they have naked quarians.

Naked quarians that were probably kidnapped by slavers and exploited into pornography.

This **** happens. It's not impossible.
