Yeah.

Although, I imagine there would be many thousands and thousands of years left before the whole "destabilized dark energy" stuff starts really taking a toll...

Honestly, I don't really expect that the Reapers actually save the galaxy by stopping advances races from using mass effect fields which destabilize stars. It would simply be too anti-climatic.

Plus, if that were there reason, it would be very simple for them to explain. Sovereign's lines on "you are incapable of understanding blah blah" implies it doesn't have anything to do mass effect fields messing up dark energy.

Hell, the entire concept would be provable via a mathematical formula.

This will not happen. They created the ME relays, so if they know that they are destroying the universe...couldn't they just destroy them? And even then, why would they mush people up and make them into another reaper just for that?

They chill out in dark space through the millenia to minimize the impact their own mass effect usage has on the galaxy/stars.  And they preserve worthy races to join them in watching the slow death of the universe.

It's a pretty horrible theory, if you try to make it internally consistent.

First, let me be clear, I do not support the "Reapers are saving the galaxy" theory.

But, the reason they keep the Mass Relays operating is so that organic races can develop along the paths they want, thus they're right there when it's time to exterminate them.

If they didn't do that, organic races would eventually form their own mass relays or whatever, and develop all over the place, and the Reapers wouldn't know where.

Blink of an eye to a Reaper.

My concern is that once the galaxy at large knows, they're going to have to go into isolation until a new technology base can be figured out.  And that means goodbye to old friends, most likely forever.

So even if they kill us...they will make all galactic life watch subconsiously while the universe eats itself? That is really, REALLY dark man. And yet I can see Harbinger doing that.

So, they are keeping us in check and preventing us from exploring into places that could kill us? Putting it this way makes it seem like they are like parents...:?

It also kind of explains how each new Reaper created apparently signs on with the whole extermination agenda.  They are totally twisted by the nightmarish perspective they have.

No, it's not for the safety of young races, it's so that the Reapers know where to find them and how to wipe them out when the time comes.

Reapers don't seem to mind the process.  I would imagine some part of the smoothie process brings you over to the reaper's point of view of whatever.  The reapers seem to legitimately believe that they are saving some races.  From their point of view, it wouldn't be torturous or dark.

No, what I was saying was that in ME3, they could destroy the Reapers, the "good guys", and there'd still be thousands of years left within the universe of ME for them to make games and stuff.

I have no idea on my hours...ME2 is up there near 150 or so, too lazy to check ME1, probably higher though, because there was more content in ME1, and I prefer the story over ME2.

Is it possible that the Reapers are just insane? Billions of years has a funny way to erode programming.

True, but if the revelation has an immediate societal impact, it's probably going to preclude a lot of truly happy endings for Shep and the gang.
