Insane is a matter of prespective. They know things that we do not, and it makes their actions appear irrational. That said, I do not want to comprehend the Reaper's motives. I do not want to be insane like them.Lividity Jones wrote...

Reapers don't seem to mind the process. I would imagine some part of the smoothie process brings you over to the reaper's point of view of whatever. The reapers seem to legitimately believe that they are saving some races. From their point of view, it wouldn't be torturous or dark.

I would imagine the reapers have some way of fixing themselves. Either self repair protocols, or maybe even some kind of advanced technology/material as a result of having millions of years to develop stuff.

It's a pretty horrible theory, if you try to make it internally consistent.

I'm pretty sure they are in near perfect shape. There is no way to erode in space, so I can't imagine that they have eroded anything. I'm guessing there is probably just one 'controller' figure who indoctrinate's them with this mindset upon creation.

First, let me be clear, I do not support the "Reapers are saving the galaxy" theory.
But, the reason they keep the Mass Relays operating is so that organic races can develop along the paths they want, thus they're right there when it's time to exterminate them.
If they didn't do that, organic races would eventually form their own mass relays or whatever, and develop all over the place, and the Reapers wouldn't know where.
So, they are keeping us in check and preventing us from exploring into places that could kill us? Putting it this way makes it seem like they are like parents...

I would lol all over the place if this was a path in ME3. Reapers share their vast knowledge with you, and you can choose to ignore it and say 'FU Reaper", or you join them, dooming/saving galactic civilization.

I think it's kind of hard to justify the destruction of organic life, no matter how wacky-backy the thought process.
That being said, I agree. The why is inconsequential. The Reapers must be stopped.

Well it would make sence in a game all about choice right? The largest decision ever would be whether or not to cause the destruction of galactic civilization. Right?

-An isolated phenomena that they'll be able to exploit to stop the Reapers. The Reapers "shields" are the source of their power. Sovereign was basically invincible until he suffered that feedback response when Saren died--right after his "shields dropped", he was torn apart.
-Something to do with the Reapers. Maybe they got some kind of base inside that star, protected by a crazy powerful mass effect field (Kinda like the Collector Base could survive within the galactic core).

Well others have made this decision, Saren for example. He knew what the reapers would do, and he made the decision to help them. He did it to try and save people, to prove our use to the reapers. With the proper reasoning this mass extinction could seem like a favor to some.

I don't see how it works in Mass Effect. A good or evil choice has a place in video games, but not Mass Effect. People get a twisted view of renegade, but it certainly isn't evil on the level of killing billions of innocent people. Shepard is a hero. He will save everyone. The renegade path in the third game will lead to saving just as many people as the paragon path does. The result is the same, only the means are different.
