Noooo, no more massive conspiracy theories involving Cerberus.  Think of the children 

I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't see the whole Haestrom's sun thing being a big deal.  I just don't see how something is going to go from initial research, to a viable option that fast. 

The best guess I can come up with, is maybe its a chance for the quarians to get in good with a council race.  Say the sun in the salarian homeworld starts to act up a little.  It could still be hundreds of years before its a problem, but the quarians could have some info that could bring the races closer together.  Getting the council race's favor won't be easy.  Anything helps.
