I agree, it's subjective (hence in my opinion). People do see things differently so I would never (and have never) faulted anyone for choosing a different romance. It's really silly to do so. The trolls and overly sensisitive people (who for some reason get affected by how popular something is) do it, and I'd rather not sink to their level, not that I was ever tempted to.

People not liking Tali does not bother me, people dislike those who do for very irrational reasons does bother me.

Okay, finished chapter one.

The worst part of that chapter, would have to be the time-frame at the end. Tore my insides up. Not gonna lie.

I know, LOVED that part. It's what really hit home for me. If it wasn't 2 AM, I might go and read the whole thing now.

That's true. It does add flavor to her character. Combat wise, it may not be all that useful considering the use of firearms and heavy armor. Then again, we don't know how sharp the material the knife is made out of (especially considering this is science fiction).

I meant in a cutscene, a dynamic moment such as that would really show more of her character, depending on how it would work out.

She was probably thinking how on earth Shepard came back.

I can't see it being that shallow.  She had legitimate feelings for Shepard before he was killed, anywhere from a serious crush to unrequited love.  She eventually buried those feelings after he died, but they wouldn't stay buried forever after he came back.  She may have wondered about how he came back at first, but after that Shepard himself is clearly very present on her mind.  As demonstrated on Haestrom's logs.

Either way, be the time we can start the romance, I think Tali is in love with Shepard. He's the only one who's really been there for her.

I've thought a little before about how far Tali's feelings before the Normandy's first destruction go.  We are left with a 3 week or so window between the end of ME1 and the start of ME2, so there is some extra variables that we don't see.  We know that she put off completing her pilgrimage and going back to the flotilla to be around Shepard longer.  That has to mean something.  In those 3 weeks, I'm sure she didn't like Shepard less.

I feel like she would constantly be wavering between feelings of true love, and telling herself that it was just a school girl crush.  The grounds for strong feelings are there in ME1.  A dashing commander saves her, lets her join his crew, treats her not only like an equal, but a good friend, and they save the world together.  Given her immaturity in matters of love at that point, I think an unsure feeling of love would make sense.

I think a lot of the time between FP and Haestrom would be fighting those feelings again.  On top of that, is he really the same person as he was before.  That's the best way that I can explain her being hesitant to start a relationship right away when she rejoins you.

Yea, this is where I was getting at. People disliking characters for their popularity comes off as immature and foolish. A lot of people for some reason care about popularity (reminds me of teenagers disliking popular bands because they're popular) and act stupidly for it. Part of the reason why I want the ignore button so much.

These are some really great points, I can especially see her going back and forth between thinking it's just a crush and thinking it's something more. I think her loyalty mission made her realize just how much she can trust him and how much he's helped her. I also think Tali is selfless. Shepard is her best friend and she looks up to him and respects him greatly, she doesn't want to burden him. That is why I think she says in the second romance conversation that Shepard "deserves to be happy with someone else." It's especially telling with the use of "deserve." He's been really good to her, treated her like an equal, as you said, in a galaxy that mistrusts Quarians and often treats them like trash. And the Flotilla holds her to higher standards or outright insults her simply for being the Admiral's daughter. Quarians are also in their suits all the time, Tali never revealed her crush because she didn't think that Shepard would like her.

Yes it would. I'd love to see something like that, like Tali sleeping in your bed peacefully at times post-suicide mission. Like Phil said, I'd also like a frame of Tali in Shepard's room.
