My biggest complaint with the romance in ME2 is that there is no opportunity to tell her that she is the only one you want to be with, to the point where she stops asking you if you want to break up.

Its an interesting point about a conflict between your ME1 LI and Tali.  Hopefully by that point you can convince her that she's the only one that you want.  I would like it if Tali stood up for your love.

That's just part of her character, Tali is insecure about her love. She is very nervous that she may not be 'good enough' for Shepard, being a quarian and being so shy about her affection. Tali wants to know that Shepard will love her back, and as much as she wants to be with him, she would rather let Shepard choose.

The line "I don't want anyone else. I want you." seems like a big indicator that Shepard has made his choice. But, her concerns are, indeed, part of her character.

You actually kind of do. At one point in the second conversation Shepard says "But I don't want anyone else. I want you."

Its an interesting point about a conflict between your ME1 LI and Tali.  Hopefully by that point you can convince her that she's the only one that you want.  I would like it if Tali stood up for your love.

I think she would. I could see her being a little hurt if Shepard had someone else before her though, and never properly ended it. I think the most ideal way to go is to have no ME1 LI.

Yeah I know you tell her that, and then I play 10 more missions, talking to Tali between each one, constantly reassuring her that I still want to be with her, with the option of breaking it off to go screw Miranda at will.  They need a lock button for the romances.  Something you can say to guarantee that she's the one you'll romance.

No ME1 LI is definitely the best move, largely because of such a huge scumbag move Bioware pulled by not giving you a breakup option in ME2.  There would be no problems if you liked someone in ME1, but those feelings changed, and you love Tali now.  Unfortunately, we're forced into a charade that our ME1 LIs still mean something when they don't.

And I do like your answer for Tali standing up for your love.  Hopefully being together before the suicide mission finally convinced her that she's the only one you want.

I don't think it'll happen, since I imagine by this point she'll be more 'confident' (if that's the right word) with herself in regards to being in a relationship with Shepard, but if during the confrontation between Tali and the ME1 LI, she says something like:

"Shepard... I love you and wish I could be with you for the rest of our lives. But... *sigh* I want you to be happy and... you'd be happie...r with her..."

I'll probably cry as I smash my mouse clicking the "choose tali" dialog option.

Solution: Don't have a ME1 LI :wizard:

That's the line I really don't want to hear her say.  I really want her to think more highly of herself.

This is because you are a sane human being with a SOUL!

But, I'm just saying is; if I was with someone and they kept saying that it would be okay if I wanted someone else, even if they were saying these things for completely selfless reasons, I would start to wonder if it wasn't a hint that the girl really wanted me to go, but was too nice or scared to break up.

I don't know if Shep would feel the same, but it's always nice to see that the person you're with it willing to defend you.

But, if anyone here break's Tali's heart, I break your kneecaps. Got me?

yes sir right away sir

Yea, I love her personality. It would be hard for me not to romance her.

I can't remember who, but about a week ago someone here wrote that the reason many of us like Tali is because she reminds us of ourselves. Now, I can not speak for anyone other then myself, but for me this is false.
One of the reasons I love Tali is because she's all the things I'm not; all the things I wish I could be. She intelligent, brave, selfless, caring and kind, innocent and awkward. She houses all of the traits that I wish I had. It's weird, but she's so imperfect. . .that she's perfect, but unlike Miranda, I don't find her perfection annoying or forced.

If I can quote Dashboard Confessional without being laughed at:

"You are everything I want,
Cause you are everything I'm not."

I think that Tali would say something like that if Shepard chose the ME1 LI. But the ME1 LI tried to get her claws on Shepard, Tali would definitely fight back.

I agree. They say opposites attract. Tali is a lot of things I'm not either. Granted, I think you are doing yourself a disservice by not calling yourself intelligent, but your right that at least some of us like Tali a lot because she's not like us.

I don't think it'll happen, but it might.

Her entire upbringing teaches her to always be considerate of others. And Shepard, her boyfriend, is pretty much the most desirable male in the entire galaxy. She no-doubt is aware of that, and she's of course aware of the "extra needs" she entails due to her weak immune system.

I can't help think she'll always feel like she doesn't quite deserve Shepard.

Well, on the bright side, that just means Shepard gets to show her she does, every day.

I had no other choice. Kaiden was in a higher value strategic point (the bomb) and was the superior officer.

The use of that word 'repercussions' scares the crap out of me.

I don't hate Liara. I don't. The more I find out about her actions from ME2, the more torn I am about how I feel, but. . .I'm sticking with Tali.

It was a dick move (no pun intended) on my part to romance Liara when I really didn't have any feelings for her (I just wanted Shep to get laid) and now it looks like I have to deal with those actions. True, I could go back and not have an ME1 LI, but. . .I kinda want to see what happens. I also want to see how much Tali will fight for this relationship.

Easy non-Virmire way to avoid Ashley is to be a jerk to her on Eden Prime.  Chose all the renegade options there, then tell Anderson you don't want her on your ship.  You actually can find a pretty cool hidden line when you talk to Ashley at the beginning.  She says something like "You criticized everything I did every step of the way."  And you respond with "Well, try being more competent in the future."

From there, I believe she starts out as not liking you.  You can mend the relationship, but just avoiding her like Liara is all you have to do.

It's impossible to start the romance if younever talked to her.
