I don't think it'll happen, since I imagine by this point she'll be more 'confident' (if that's the right word) with herself in regards to being in a relationship with Shepard, but if during the confrontation between Tali and the ME1 LI, she says something like:

"Shepard... I love you and wish I could be with you for the rest of our lives. But... *sigh* I want you to be happy and... you'd be happie...r with her..."

I'll probably cry as I smash my mouse clicking the "choose tali" dialog option.

Solution: Don't have a ME1 LI :wizard:

That's actually pretty hard to do, i ignored both Ash and Liara for the entire game....but in the end i stil got Ash

doing a playthrough with no ME1 LIs right now, I virmired Ash just to be sure this doesn't happen.  Ended ME1 with no LI and it was Kaiden on the normandy at the start of ME2, so I think I'm golden to have Tali as my only LI throughout the trilogy with this playthrough ^^

Easy non-Virmire way to avoid Ashley is to be a jerk to her on Eden Prime.  Chose all the renegade options there, then tell Anderson you don't want her on your ship.  You actually can find a pretty cool hidden line when you talk to Ashley at the beginning.  She says something like "You criticized everything I did every step of the way."  And you respond with "Well, try being more competent in the future."

From there, I believe she starts out as not liking you.  You can mend the relationship, but just avoiding her like Liara is all you have to do.

Thanks for the tip, i'll do it next time i play ME1 :wizard:

The use of that word 'repercussions' scares the crap out of me.

I don't hate Liara. I don't. The more I find out about her actions from ME2, the more torn I am about how I feel, but. . .I'm sticking with Tali.

It was a dick move (no pun intended) on my part to romance Liara when I really didn't have any feelings for her (I just wanted Shep to get laid) and now it looks like I have to deal with those actions. True, I could go back and not have an ME1 LI, but. . .I kinda want to see what happens. I also want to see how much Tali will fight for this relationship.

What if it ends both romances? If all you wanted was Shepard to get laid, then you should play the game again and not have Liara as the romance.

Indeed. There is absolutely no indicator that this will end well and every indicator that this will end badly.

I'm not afraid of repercussions personally.  I've convinced myself that it can't be anything serious when you have an ME1 LI if you talked to your crew and weren't a complete ass, or didn't play ME1 at all.  Then you can't break up in ME2.  So basically, unless you played ME1 specifically waiting for Tali, you have the conflict coming up.  I can't see how its going to be more serious than the ME1 conflict.  They both approach you, you choose Tali, and Ashley/Liara go to their mad at you dialogue.

I gathered that their use of repercussions and consequences when saying cheating meant more than what was in ME1. I do think it's better just to go through ME1 with no LI, if only to play it safe.

I do like Ash, Kaiden, and Liara, I just disliked their romances. I do not want to explain why because I already have numerous times.

But I will repeat this; it was for the best. Tali's romance was brilliantly done.

Actually, easiest way is to "romance" Ash (have her conversations), then choose the "ash means a great deal to me" and "I don't feel that way about you Liara" options to lock out Liara as a LI.  Then sacrifice Ash on Virmire.  Ipso facto, no ME 1 LI.

I just can't see it for metagaming reasons.  What possible motivation does Bioware have for screwing over so many people?  Not everyone played ME1, some people played ME1 years ago.  None of your decisions affected anything serious in ME2, I can't see a minor ME1 choice changing a large thing in ME3.

I'm not sure how big the fallout will be for making romances nearly impossible for ME3, but when the biggest selling point you have is your company name, random acts of antagonization are idiotic.

I agree :wizard: The portrayal of the emotion and Tali's feelings was phenomenal. Especially when you put it into more context and perspective as we have been in these conversations. It really hits home, it feels very natural for me.

I really don't think anything serious will happen if you "cheat" (I don't like using that word in this context, since I don't feel it's accurate).

Here's how I see it.

90% of the people who played ME1, romanced someone. The default ME2 game has you romanced with Ashley. Basically, Bioware expected, and wanted, people to go into ME2 romanced.

Now, in ME2, there are six romances--that's twice as many as there were in ME1. And these were all really quite good (except maybe Jacob's...) They wanted you to romance someone in ME2.

Basically, what I'm getting at, is that Bioware intended for people to romance someone in ME1, and then romance someone in ME2. They want players to have the romance confrontation in ME3. I really don't think they'll punish the player for something they intended.

That's the line I really don't want to hear her say.  I really want her to think more highly of herself.

I think that Tali would say something like that if Shepard chose the ME1 LI. But the ME1 LI tried to get her claws on Shepard, Tali would definitely fight back.

I still think that no ME1 LI is the safest and best way to go. I'm sure Tali would like to think she's Shepard's one and only.

There are two reasons I won't be changing what I did:

1) I don't think I can go back to ME1 after the improvements of the second.
2) I really do want to see what the outcome of my choices were. Besides, at the time I never knew I could be with Tali, nor did Shepard. If he did. . .well, then things might have changed.

HOWEVER: If BioWare is a complete ass and makes this end both relationships, I will put down ME3 on the spot and right after I finish sending the design team an AIDS sandwich, I will go back and re-do everything through ME 1 and 2 (Side missions, DLC, EVERYTHING!) with only Tali.

Yes, she's that important.

Regardless, it's an easy conclusion that your previous love will get upset, no matter what you say. Ash said it was essentially over, but Liara obviously still cares.

I do feel guilty for "cheating" on Liara though.

Again, the statement "I don't want anyone else. I want you." is pretty exclusive.

Having a previous romance, in my opinion, cheapens Tali's romance thoroughly.

"I don't want anyone else. I want you."

"Oh really? What about Liara?"

That doesn't even get brought up!

Sums up my feelings nicely.  It would be one thing if you personally had to mess up to get the confrontation, but they lead you right into it purposely.

I have a no-romance ME1 save (made specially for Tali), so I'm not worried. But I really don't expect anything bad happening. Probably the worst thing will be that the one you don't choose will leave or not join your crew.

I too, am afraid of the "repercussions". I will have 3 "canon" saves.

1. Romance Ash/No ME2 romance.

2. No ME1 romance/romance Tali.

3. Romance Liara/Romance Garrus (femshep, obviously).

I am contemplating saving just before Legion with the Ash save so I have the option of romancing one of the 3 and going the infidelity way for ME3 with Tali.

That makes sense (of course that could just be me believing only what I want to hear, but;)
Since ME was written from the start as a trilogy, it's possible that BW had a vague idea about what would happen with the romance.
Not character specific, of course, but a rough outline sitting on someone's desk.

Besides, I agree: They really do seem to want you to have an LI in both games. Hell, there's an achievement for it BOTH TIMES! I don't know of anyone who didn't get an LI at last once for the points, if no other reason.
