heres hoping for a better loyalty system in ME3 and the choices you make in the previous games sets different squadmates loyalties at the start of the ME3 so romancing Tali would give lots of loyalty to her. something like that maybeAzint wrote...
It does make me curious as to that Tali would say if you choose the other woman. It will take some effort on my part...Phil725 wrote...
I'm not afraid of repercussions personally. I've convinced myself that it can't be anything serious when you have an ME1 LI if you talked to your crew and weren't a complete ass, or didn't play ME1 at all. Then you can't break up in ME2. So basically, unless you played ME1 specifically waiting for Tali, you have the conflict coming up. I can't see how its going to be more serious than the ME1 conflict. They both approach you, you choose Tali, and Ashley/Liara go to their mad at you dialogue.

"I don't want anyone else. I want you."
"Oh really? What about Liara?"
That doesn't even get brought up!
The statement is pretty exclusive, but its also present tense. Sure Shep had Ashley/Liara in the past, he probably had plenty of other girls pre ME1. None of those matter now, because Tali is the only one for him.
That said, I don't think anyone is challenging that the Tali relationship is better with a ME1 LI. Just that I can't see it having any real negative effects.

The problem with that is how arbitrary the romance worked in Mass Effect, it almost ruined the three characters for me. You could not just talk to Ashley or Liara without a romance growing, it happened whether or not you wanted it to. At least in Mass Effect 2 they are much more flexible about it, even Tali understands that not all playthroughs are for her. She's so selfless.Lividity Jones wrote...

True. I prefer not having a romance in ME1 because I like the idea of both Shepard and Tali having feelings for each other and trying to sort them out without the other knowing.
Think of it as a two-sided Oblivious To Love.

I actually don't see loyalty being a big factor in ME3. You should already have it going into the game. That's what ME2 was for
I really can't imagine anything that you could do to increase the loyalty to Tali after romancing her.
I see a situation similar to ME1. Everyone starts out more or less liking you, and they continue to like you without much interaction. You can purposely turn them on you, but you have to do it on purpose really.

The default ME2 game has you romanced with Ashley.
I still think that no ME1 LI is the safest and best way to go. I'm sure Tali would like to think she's Shepard's one and only.

Haven't you ever been with someone and thought that s/he was 'the one' only to find out later that you were wrong? That's my reasoning behind Shepard's actions for Ash or Liara.
Okay, let's say that even during ME1 Shepard has some feelings for Tali, that he doesn't (at the time) just see her as a friend or like the little sister he never had; both Liara and Ash are attractive woman who make their feelings very well known. Shepard feels alone, upset, and is probably very sure he's going to die during this mission. At the time Shepard probably did believe that he loved that girl, but as time went on and hormones dropped, maybe questions were rising.
Who's to say that, if Shep had not died during the Normandy attack, he would still be with Ash or Liara? They could have broken up by that point.
Also, if Tali had a crush on you during the first game (as she said) she does a VERY good job hiding it. Believe me, if I had even the slightest hint she saw me as anything more than a friend, I would not have gone for an LI my second time around.
So, is Shep totally innocent? No, but nor is is completely at fault, I feel.

I agree, I've explored how a Tali romance arc would work for ME1, and came to the conclusion that it could have worked, but they would have had to put more than 5 minutes of effort into it, so it wouldn't fit in with the others. You could become closer friends with Tali, eventually starting a romantic relationship. I don't see her having strong enough feelings, or the time to be ready for sex before Ilos, so maybe a first date/dinner type thing instead.
Then as the relationship starts to grow, the collectors come by for their massive c*ck block party. <_<
Something along those lines could've worked.

Letting her down gently is the best you can do in those games. Or you could ignore her.Phil725 wrote...

I still think that things worked out for the best, considering how she bottles up her affection for an entire game. Then comes the romance and she pours out her feelings.Phil725 wrote...

I assume that it's very, very cute and would make me lose more of my carefully collected 'man cards'.
