  Seeing her captain so pensive, Tali nimbly jumps from the kodiak she had been checking systems on.  She makes her way to Shepards side, placing one hand on his right shoulder as she joins him in staring at the datapad.  After a moment, she looks over at his face.
  "The shuttle is ready Shepard," she says quietly.  "What is our next step Captain?"
  With a grunt, Shepard shakes his head, ending his revery.  "Well now, miss Vas Normandy, how about..... [end example]

Being a former english major helps sometimes.....

Now if I had an actual plot, I might be tempted to write my own fic. Too bad that is probably the best you'll get out of me - kidding aside, I'm not that good.  I just took the end scene of ME2 and added a smidgeon (after all, the end of ME2 implies the ship is actually repaired and the data from the collector ship has been decrypted; who knows how long it has been?).

Depending on how many systems they were crucial to it could be extremely quick.
Although from what I understand it was kinda like the whole terminator uprising in that series

Probably not too long. Geth appeared to be everywhere- servants, workers, etc. So it probably came "ATTACK CREATOR THREAT" and five seconds later, every place on the world was under fire.

Considering theyn likely outnumbered the quarians, and were stationed everywhere, my guess would be 2-3 days, tops.  The codex mentions that it was almost exlusively the military and then stragglers that escaped.

So think Necromongers (from Riddick).
