I think if they lived on Rannoch, he and Tali would switch roles, sorta. He would have to eat special food from elsewhere, while Tali could actually eat food from the planet. She would still need to be in her suit, and Shepard likely would need one as well, so they would both be stuck in a suit...

I refuse to believe that it will take 60 years. That seems to me like the longest possible time it could take. Maybe a quarian with a not very adaptive immune system, who has been living on the flotilla for a very long time, used their immune system as little as possible on the flotilla, and doesn't get any scientific help.
There has to be some way to expedite the process, and I don't know about anyone else, but my Shepard is going to have a lot of money, and will spare no expense

1: Mordin breezed right through not just developing a cure for the Collector-itis tearing through Omega, but he customized it for multiple species.
2: Unlike the Genophage, which made the Krogan genome do something it didn't originally do, the Quarian impaired immune system is the result of atrophy; meaning, it once was strong enough to preclude the need for suits. Furthermore, the Quarian immune system had a sort of synergistic reaction with some pathogens, providine a possible avenue for easier gene therapy.
3: Mordin still has an atonement complex you might be able to guilt-trip into doing the Quarian job. :innocent:

Yeah yeah, Shepard's a real bloody hero, the quarians like him, big deal. I'm sure many quarians thought they didn't need Shepard's help, didn't want to go to war at all. Not to mention there are quarians who are split between going to war with the geth and recolonizing, you're going to ****** people off no matter what you choose, right?
Say Shepard saves them all either way and they have no reason to not like him, Shepard has to become a quarian to live on Rannoch, right? I read about this somewhere..
Well my assumed ME3 situation has the quarians reclaiming their homeworld peacefully. With the geth either going elsewhere, since it doesn't matter to them, or just living peacefully beside them. I can't see how anyone will have a problem with that. The war/peace argument is just another paragon/renegade thing. Both sides want the same thing, neither will begrudge the other if it works. The war supporters will be just as happy to waltz in peacefully if it will work. Their beliefs are rooted in that they don't think thats an option.
As far as Shepard not being able to be on Rannoch. I had never thought about it. I can't see one human on a planet being that big of a concern. Maybe of all the ironic situations, he would be forced to wear a helmet outside like on the flotilla, while the quarians eventually adapt back to the planet. That's entirely up to Bioware's adaptation of the quarian immune system though. Personally, I can't see one human on Rannoch being worse than any other random anomaly that could cause problems.
Worst case scenario, he would still be able to be with Tali inside though.
Put the shoes on the other feet. If we had a badass alien come out of nowhere and save Earth and the Milky Way, and then hooked up with a hot human chick and decided to live on Earth, it would be a privilege, right? But then there will always be those 1500 idiots throwing eggs and tellin "them critters" to get outa here! Not that Shepard couldn't handle some misinformed quarians
Shepard wearing a suit...hmm...he'd probably blend in pretty good as just a "rather large" quarian lol, look at his shins, he does a good quarian impression!

He's a genius scientist in an advanced sci-fi story. He's more magical than anyone in our world today
If Bioware wants the quarians to be able to be without suits shortly after ME3, and they go the scientific breakthrough route, it will be Mordin. There are plenty of believable ways that they could come up with.

The quarians are going to have their hands full just resettling the planet and converting their society from 100% spacegoing to a sustainable planet-based one. They're probably not going to have the money for some kind of crash gene-therapy program while they're just trying to get everything in order.Phil725 wrote...

i think that the 60 years is kinda indicative but for fully adaptation i suppose that in a few years quarians should be able to live whitout suits inside their houses (with various filters and such) and will be forced to wear suits only outside
also that doesnt mean that if they are exposed to some bacteria before 60 years they will die, probably it will be quite dangerous for the first couple of years but later on i suppose they will just get ill
