What was that word that asari mother used to describe her dead spouse?

Bondmate?

I could live with that.

I always heard it as "Bonbon" It's the accent.

It's bondmate.

I like the sound of it. Tali and Shepard aren't mates, seeing as they can't have children. They're together because they have a strong bond, a strong history, a strong friendship. The word Bondmate denotes this, which is why it appeals to me.

When was this established?

Well, I guess it was never technically established. But it seems like a sure thing. When Tali talked about her parents in ME1, the way she talked about them made it seem like they were a family unit.

And she mentioned that couples are allowed one child. Some kind of romantic bonding is heavily implied.

I know. I'm just saying, with a Canadian accent it would sound too much like he was about to say "Bonbon" every time he said it.

Yeah, you're right. And that young quarian in Ascension, the one who's mom loved orange? It seemed like his parents were "together forever"

Depends on the person. I personally think Mark Meer has a very clear voice as Shepard, I can't really detect much in the way of an accent.

Fact of the matter is, Tali is a Love Interest. Therefore, she is guaranteed to play a role in ME3, as it is the conclusion of the trilogy.

Will I still play it if they don't bring her back? Probably. But I'll be pissed the entire way along. But they won't do that. Tali has the largest fanbase and probably the largest argument for a "canon" romance. In addition, the sheer, massive set up for ME3 involving the Geth/Quarians will heavily involve her, even if she's dead (as her absence would be very conspicuous).

To me, recruiting a new team for ME3 just doesn't make sense from a narrative point of view. Look at some well-known trilogies: both SW sets, the Matrix, LotR, etc.

Generally, both the first and second installment introduce material to the setting, building it up, adding more plot twists, adding more characters, etc. However, inevitably, you reach a critical mass and when you get to the third installment, you have to wrap it all up. Few trilogies add a large cast of new characters after the second installment because at that point, it gets hard to keep track of and it pushes the climax and resolution further into the distance.

Consider this: in ME1 and ME2, all of the characters gathered a fanbase who wants to see more of them. We know ME3 will be the end of Shepard's story. If their plot threads don't get resolved and new plot threads are brought up by a new cast of characters I think it's fair to say that a lot of fans would feel disappointed - not just because their favorite character wasn't included, but because there would be a feeling of unresolved plot lines lying about.

It's not going to be easy for BioWare and I hardly envy them. But it's what they've gotten themselves into and I think they're well aware of that.

True. I didn't even relise he was Canadian until I was told. But, then again, I've never met a Canadian.

Yeah, but I don't think it's an appropriate term for the start of a relationship. Both "bond" and "mate" heavily imply a permanent union--basically, a marriage.

It's kinda like, two people confessing they have feelings for each other, and they go straight to referring to the other as husband/wife.

I prefer the term "Lifemate" for quarians.

At the start of the relationship I'd agree.

Post Omega 4 though? After Tali takes off her mask, sharing the same air Shepard breathes, performing her peoples most sacred symbol of trust and affection, then proceeding to be intimate with him?

Boyfriend/Girlfriend just doesn't cut it anymore.
