You still thing those terms are applicable, after one of the people basically plays Russian Roulette to be with the other, risking disease, and a very slow, very agonizing death, just to show how much they care for the other person?
You certainly have high standards, I give you that.
To each their own I guess. It'll be interesting to see what direction the relationship takes in 3 at any rate. We'll see then.
There's two extra factors. They were on their way to a mission that they both knew had a high chance of death.
Also, I do believe Tali felt reasonably confident she'd survive. She of course knows there's a risk of death, but her wording made it seem like she knew she had good chances of being alright. She knows her immune system better than anyone.
Maybe.
Still, I don't know many people who would risk it regardless, married or otherwise.
Oh well, it's all semantics at this point anyway. Tali and Shepard are close at this point, whatever you want to call the relationship.

LOVERS!:O:O
d'awwwwwwwwwwwwwww:wub:
I thought of it at first and said meh...then everyone started throwing "bondmate lifemate trustmate" and every kind of mate there is and then I thought:
Joker: "So Shepard, you and Tali are uh...what are you guys now anyway?"
Shepard's about to answer then thinks about it.
Tali: "We're lovers, Joker" then holds Shepard's arm as he looks at her with his boyish grin
Shepard: *goofy laugh* " ......you and me .......... and you're my ........ awesome:wub:"

so then what are they going to do for the few people that had her die?... you cant possible think that they would write up anouther character to take her place...( assumed respone= those people will just be with out tali)...
bioware is all about "plan for the worst and hope for the best".. just like with wrex.. how he made grunts mission easier by being alive..
"The shortcut will be that the characters themselves don't affect the
plot. You don't need Tali to reclaim the homeworld, or Grunt to unite
the krogan" .... they are not needed is my point. you can do the job just the same with out them
but the fact is that they even did "Liara's character assassination." you only need to change one word in there to make it relevant to tali?...
she could go back to try and make up to her people.. she can go back to be on the admiral bored...
liara romanced shepard in ME1.. did not stop her from going
i agree that bioware has things planed out... but its hard to see it as any thing other then a NPC
Wrex didn't make Grunt's mission easier by being alive. He made it exactly the same, but it felt more awesome from a character perspective because you were running into an old friend. Why can't Tali and everyone else have a similar role like that in the third game? To use Tali's example, why would we need her to reclaim the homeworld? We can do it just as easily without her. The punishment for having her die is that you don't get to see her reaction when it happens. She's not needed per say, but would you honestly want to miss that reaction? Have you ever played an ME2 game without Wrex? It sucks not having him there even though he doesn't change anything. Tali multiplies that by 50.
There is too much plot related stuff to do to develop new characters. Luckily we have a developed team ready to go. Just bring everyone back, and your done. Whats the other option? 12 alternate paper thing squad mates? They aren't going to bring everyone back except Tali. You don't need any specific character, but you need some team mates. Play with just Tali alive if you're like Rune, or bring back the full team if you want.
I'd still like to see a believable way to make Tali a non squad member. I said it would be worse than Liara's character assassination, not the same. If you keep making stupid moves like that in games, eventually you lose your fabled developer status.

This
Tali will be in 3 as a squadmate. To do otherwise... Bioware would need to have suffered irreversable brain damage first. We're talking, hole in the head, gaping wound, brains on the pavement brain damage.

Correct. The third part of the trilogy is always wrapping up loose ends. One of which is Romance.Nivenus wrote...
To me, recruiting a new team for ME3 just doesn't make sense from a narrative point of view. Look at some well-known trilogies: both SW sets, the Matrix, LotR, etc.
Generally, both the first and second installment introduce material to the setting, building it up, adding more plot twists, adding more characters, etc. However, inevitably, you reach a critical mass and when you get to the third installment, you have to wrap it all up. Few trilogies add a large cast of new characters after the second installment because at that point, it gets hard to keep track of and it pushes the climax and resolution further into the distance.
Consider this: in ME1 and ME2, all of the characters gathered a fanbase who wants to see more of them. We know ME3 will be the end of Shepard's story. If their plot threads don't get resolved and new plot threads are brought up by a new cast of characters I think it's fair to say that a lot of fans would feel disappointed - not just because their favorite character wasn't included, but because there would be a feeling of unresolved plot lines lying about.
It's not going to be easy for BioWare and I hardly envy them. But it's what they've gotten themselves into and I think they're well aware of that.
Every major trilogy has basically had the same characters. It doesn't make sense to create new characters for each game.
To hop off your example, LotR. First book introduced everything. Second book set the stage and introduced a few more characters (Theoden, Eomer, Faramir). Third book didn't really introduce that many plot-critical characters (I think it was only Imrahil that could be determined "plot critical").
If anything, they'll bring back a few from ME2 and introduce a few more for ME3. The only reason they'd have to introduce a bunch more characters would be to appeal to people who haven't played ME2 and/or ME1. And face it, they'll still be lost, and they really deserve to be.
My greatest fear is that they'll go the ME2 route and try to keep Tali "alive" by introducing her to a "backseat" roll like Liara or Ashley. But this isn't ME2. This is the final game, there's no reason to keep her alive. Everything needs to be resolved, and Tali is a pretty big Plot Thread.
argh! plz no more cast there are alredy enought characters around, let know them better rather than quite superficially (some characters in me2 are not very developed) also there is no reason why Tali and Garrus should leave for ME3 another normandy destruction?... ewwww
personally i didnt like that much the cameo of Liara, she seemed totally crazy and a very different char from me1, she will be back in me3 as a powerfull asari commando i suppose but for me her char was kinda ruined due to this strange huge twist, dont want to see it happen with other important chars, expecially in the final chapter
lets keep current char and develope their story/background more and same goes for the romance, let it progress rather than restart from 0 at every chapter of the saga
