Noooooooo

I got FFXIII today... but the PS3 will come on Monday.

Now I can look at the Box for 2 days XD

and why cant I stop lisstening to this?

@interview: with standalone they mean, that every story of the trilogy has it's own plot... each episode doen't end with a cliffhanger.
It's more like Harry Potter... every book was part of a large story, but had it's own plot, like the philosophers stone.

When I beat ME2, I thought that was the biggest cliffhanger of meh life.

You never played HL2 or Assissin's Creed, didn't ya? :P

Not HL2, but yeah AC. I guess what I mean is that on other games I'm just like ooohhh, the next games going to be cool. But with ME2 I was like," ZOMGNSEJNRSEJKN I R WANNA PLAY ME3!!!!!! NAOOOOO". Indeed, I went noob**** on that.

ME3 news from the war front  ... actually from the site forums

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/103/index/2311762/1#2312522

That is...not encouraging.  <_<

I'm rather aggrevated. Why would they do this?? Doesn't make since. I'm not sure whether Bioware is punk slapping their fans or they're **** slapping their fans. :?

Hopefully, they're saying it'll be similar to ME2. The story will be a seperate entity that you don't NEED to have played the other games to understand, but will certainly help to have played them.

I'm sure thats what they're doing.  ME2 was a standalone title, would you really want to play an ME2 file without importing?  No Wrex, Udina, no NPCs left alive.  It sucks.  We will be able to affect the plot line with our decisions in ME3, and the characters for ME2 will be there to make it more awesome for us.

this is really dissapointing news:mellow:

Good on you for remaining optimistic.  Though I still think Bioware could have chosen their words a little more carefully if that's the case :?

Its actually not so much optimism, as it is I've tempered my expectations for ME3.  Nothing in ME2 made me expect them to change things for ME3.  I just hope they're a little more consistent in the ways that they marginalize our decisions this time.  No more random change of hearts for people <_<

I agree that their choice of words could have been better though.  I think they're still technically right saying that your choices matter, I mean, you can kill yourself or save the galaxy.  The message just gets convoluted when you marginalize major choices between each game. I think their intention all along was to have ME3 splinter in different directions depending on how you play it, I don't think they ever meant that ME2 would decide your ME3 ending though.

Exactly.

It's alot easier to allow splinters in one game than in two.

Let's say Bioware made the entirety of Mass Effect 3 depend on whether or not you blew up the Collector base AND whether you saved the Council. That's 4 potential combinations- Council Saved, Collector Base Destroyed, Council Killed, Collector Base Saved, etc.

If the entirety of the game depended on that, that's four different plot lines, four different games have to be written, voiced, and dialogued. And 75% of players wouldn't see any of the other stuff.

What I expect is that for new players, they'll get forced into a set path and get one experience. But say you saved the Council and destroyed the Collector Base. The Council becomes the "good guys", you get orders from them. Missions remain the same, but things around them get different. If you destroyed the Collector Base, you get orders from the Council, who's appearance depend on what you did in Mass Effect 1. If you saved the Collector Base, you get orders from the Illusive Man.

Save game, just a few different cutscenes surrounding the situation.

That would work.  Though I will be disappointed if the geth/quarian conflict that they hyped up for damn near 1/8th of ME2 doesn't follow through in a pretty big way.

There's only one way to determine this.

We need ninjas to infilitrate Bioware and steal the Design Document for Mass Effect 3. These ninja will need to accept the fact that they will have their experience spoiled, but they will not spoil the story for anyone else. They will only let us know facts about Tali.

Being that I'm banned from Canada, and Canada isn't part of Tali Nation Space (thus my Spectre status has no power there), we need somebody else to do it...

I don't care, as long as it's as good as ME2, and we get to hang the reapers by their tendrils. Oh, and my Tali wishes:
1. She is a squad mate.
2. Romance is an option.
3. We get to see her face.
4. We get to do her at will.
5. I get to rub it in Miranda's face.

That too much to ask, Bioware?

As long as Tali's fate plays a role and the noobs that are too lazy to play through the first two games get stuck with the crapsack ending where she's exiled or she hates you because you ratted her father out...

I'm betting... the ending for any Quarian affairs will go down with this:

If you endorsed peace, the admiralty opts for peace (maybe even having speech challenges to sway the aging old warship Han'gerrel vas Lohgain Neema over)... except for Xen who wants to carry out her plan of Geth domination, which you then have to go deal with. Maybe end it with one of the Admiralty having to end things the hard way by shooting Xen dead for extra drama.

If you endorsed War, you can convince everyone on the Admiralty, except for Koris, who then goes off to try and warn the Geth. Same level, and you end up shooting him instead.

You realize that's ME2 decisions massively affecting the plot right?  The whole thing people are mad over is that its unlikely that anything like this happens.  :?

I think the likely default ME3 will have Tali exiled.  It seems to be the likely outcome for a normal Shepard.  In that case, she won't hate you, but it wouldn't be the best possible situation.

As for urging them to peace/war, remember completing Tali's pilgrimage in ME1?  I'm thinking it will be like that.  If you gave her the data, she believes you right away, and trusts you.  If you didn't give her the data, you have to go through another line or two before she believes you.  If you urged them to peace in ME2, nice job, you just saved yourself a line of dialogue worth of work in ME3.  I wouldn't expect more than that.

Hey, it's better than the sleep-with-the-love-interest-one-time-before-the-final-mission approach. I'm getting sick of it. I would like more of a DA:O approach to it, with a "care to join me in my tent  cabin?

Bioware will never reveal her face. They have dug a deep hole in which they cannot get out of. Tali's face is open to so much ambgiouty, that creating a "real" face for her could cause a lot of disappointment They now need to draw a face that must please over 9000 people without displeasing the other 9000 people.

Which also completely invalidates the meaning behind the sex.  If you can have sex at will, then there is literally no value to it in the context of the storyline.  It would also DESTROY the importance of Tali/Shepard's relationship because of the very heavily discussed "I could get sick" barrier.

I don't think people are worried about their decisions not mattering at all, it was always obvious that your decisions would show up in some way.  People just aren't going to be satisfied with 100 emails about what you did, and 200 more alternate lines in meaningless conversations.  I think a lot of people were drinking the Kool-Aid on past decisions changing the plot of ME3.  And I don't see that happening.

I don't think anybody really expected too much about ME2.

I don't expect the decisions changing the entirety of the plot, but some effect would be nice. Even if it's just changing who you talk to during a cutscene, like I suggested before, I'd be okay with it.

Well, they could create a randomized encounter system. Each "Care to join me in my cabin?" could generate a random cutscene from, say, 20-50 cut scene options.

There is one flaw with this argument.  The group that wants her face revealed is the overwhelming majority.  You can never please everyone, but a situation like this where you can please most people (reveal,) its not bad.  Any generic face on Tali will get a much better reception than hiding it for the trilogy.  They also have already let the cat out of the bag that they have her face drawn, so that excuse is gone.

I've gone over all the facts multiple times in the past, I've settled on a 96% chance of seeing her face.  Its going to happen.
