I sincerely hope they do SOMEthing to make it an RPG again.  It felt more like Gears of War than Mass Effect.  They swung too far in the other direction.

same here, me1 had more approaches to various situations and the character developement was waaaay better, me2 feels a bit arcadish, sort of cod with super power, even if i like how cover is handled and the fast pace

Wait, wait.  Character development way better in ME1?  Huh?

The characters were paper thin in ME1.  Tali was a codex entry, Ashley and Kaidan were generic soldiers, Garrus was nothing special.  There was twice as many characters to develop in ME2, and they were all developed better.  You got insight into everyone's thoughts and their lives.  I realize its an opinion and all, but flimsy characters was a big complaint I had for ME1. :?

*shrugs* i couldn't care less, finally we don't get any poll-link-spams anymore.

Yeah, let's just say that they all ate Legion and died a week later from lead-poisoning.

finally shes out of that, no more spamming, also i dont like "hate polls" to vote for your fav char is good, but to vote against another just for the sake of it... Image IPB

The idea behind it is a community role play game to attract all the fans of different characters. Whenever characters get voted out I add a little more story explaining how they died. Yes its prone to flaming but thats not the goal. Anyway in the end of the day they are just fictional characters and the poll means squat. Image IPB

Why get so worked up?
ME2 had an idiot default Shepard with some of the worst decisions you could imagine. But it still let us import our own ME1 characters (with the correct decisions I might add).

ME3 will just do the same. Have an idiot Shepard that slugs can play with and allow us to import our characters into it.

As for the crew. I see starting with the crew we have. Thane will be dead due to his illness and Samara will leave as her promise has been kept. In their place we get Liara and either Kaidan or Ashley to fill the spots.

I don't see Thane dead.  He should get LI protection.  They aren't going to have 1/9 LIs not have a conclusion.  ME3 is likely to take place right after the ending of ME2, that gives Thane some more time to live, and maybe something you can do to help him in the middle.

Thane IS dying, had less than a year to begin with.  Stated that right in the game.  Its a tragic LI but it was put out right at the beginning.
And, just so ya know, Tali is the ONLY LI, the others are just one night stands.  Never did care for those.

The other LIs are definitely not one night stands.  Maybe in your mind, but I guarantee, not everyone's, and they won't be treated like that by Bioware.

He had less than a year, its only been a few months.  He still has some time left.  Bioware can always wave their magic wand and buy him an extra year through some technological advancement.

Sorry, that last part was pure Talimancer.
But more seriously, there are current characters that can leave and wont effect the game.  I feel ME3 will be empire building.  Small missions to gain a races support.  Tali may end up being an Admiral (hinted at in game) and help you work a peace for their home world but I hope she stays on board the Normandy.

If Bioware announces Mass Effect 3 at E3. I'm going to shat meh pantalones.

That would seem to be the obvious direction they go in.  They aren't going to have to revamp the gameplay system completely.  It shouldn't take nearly as much time as ME1-2.

I sincerely hope they do SOMEthing to make it an RPG again.  It felt more like Gears of War than Mass Effect.  They swung too far in the other direction.

while I COMPLETELY disagree with you on the underlined, I do feel that Mass Effect 2 did take a few pages from Gears of War.

Though, admittedly, I think the new combat system is fantastic.  My only real issue is the lack of continuity between missions (loading screens and mission reports?  REALLY BIOWARE?)

well i'm speaking of char developement and indeed the chars in me1 where more varied in what they where able to do and the strategy to apply on the field

in me2 with the global timers and pretty similar powers you generally end up spamming your best power or to cycle between a few, depending by the defences of the enemy but in the end is kinda the same "pattern" everytime

as said i like the pace and the better use of cover, but compared to me1 i feel the chars are a bit more onedimensional (there are few exception but quite a few)

also npcs suffered a lot imo and are on totally different rules than the main char, a thing that imo is generally bad, but dont want to bash this system that much, as said it have also good pros and is generally fun to play

I agree with empire building, but that also means that we're not going to waste half the game recruiting a team.  Luckily, we already have a team ready to go.  Getting rid of the old crew makes no sense, and I also don't see them getting rid of only one or two.  I can see Zaeed/Kasumi leaving because they're DLC, but even people like Samara and Thane will probably have some opportunity to stick around.  Regardless of how they explain it in game.

The problem with Tali being an admiral, first of all, what if she's exiled?  Bioware won't have different ME3s based on ME2 actions, and thats a major change.  Also, why would Tali accept that?  She's not Liara, she isn't going to be stupid and ignore the obvious threat to play her own game. She can help the quarians more by defeating the reapers than being an admiral.

I was saying yesterday, I can't think of one possible way to explain how a Tali that was exiled, and romanced by Shepard leaves the Normandy.  Its impossible to write.  She's staying ^_^

Tali can be an admiral, but I don't think she wants it. I think she could help in more ways out in the field than just sit down and discuss what to do all day. She said herself that it'd maybe been easier if she was exiled.

I don't blame her. I find politics boring too.

here i'm speaking only about functional developement, how a char is built, his skills, his weapons and so on, not the "rpg aspect"

Agreed, what motivation does Tali have to leave Shepard, and go futilely debate stuff with the other idiots on the admirality board?  She doesn't want that, and there's no reason she would do that.  She's with Shepard, and together they will destroy the reapers and live happily ever after

What I see happening is that in Mass Effect 3, all imported Shepards will get additional dialog and responses, and different sub-plots depending on what you did in the first two(saving the counsel)(destroying the Collector base) for example. I don't believe decisions made in the first two ME games as having any major change. I doubt that my decisions will amount to much in the main story. I hope that the romance with Tali will amount to something in Mass Effect 3, but I don't know what Bioware is going to do. I'll be pissed with Bioware if there is not any closer between Shepard and Tali. Bioware is a corporation and they are affiliated with Electronic Arts, that is reason enough for me to not trust them.
