While it hasn't been "confirmed", the only logical conclusion that can be taken from the human reaper in ME2 is that all Reapers have a core, apparently modeled after their original race. 

It'd be pretty insane if you're inside Harbinger, and when you see it's core......... it looks identical to the human Reaper. That would basically say that somehow, ancient humans created the Reapers. 

What a twist!
