I think its more that Tali has no advanced knowledge of genetics or science in general. She had a military upbringing. She likely only has a high school level knowledge of science. The situation in general is a mystery to quarians as well. They have no idea how their immune systems will respond to this as its happening.
i think she actually have a good knowledge of science (not genetics ofc) as is leading the scientific expedition to study the dying sun... still a think is something that quarians generally know, to reclaim their homeworld is an hot topic for them and i bet there are a lot of debates and simulations about the war and recolonization of their homeworld
so yup she will not know these info because of her studies but i'm inclined to think that quarian scientists studied this topic a lot and info are public
Whether she has the knowledge or not, I don't think Haestrom is a good indicator. They were going to get info, for scientists to study it. Tali was never going to be the one breaking down the data. She was leading a strike team, it was her and a bunch of Kal'Reegers.
And I'm sure the info is made available, I just think it would be a lot like advanced science today. Sure you can go out and learn about it on your own, but if your focus from childhood is on another proffession, you probably won't be qualified to give a solid opinion on the subject.
And I'm sure they focus on it a lot as a race, but I still doubt that they could come to a definitive conclusion about how long it would take, and the information is only diluted farther as it trickles down from the top to others.
I'm sure Tali has a good knowledge of science as it applies to technology. That's what technology is: the application of science. However, I do agree that biology is not Tali's purview.
