And Finch is now breathing through a new hole in his head in my playthrough anyway. Being in a gang may not have been a paragon Shepard's proudest moment, by I like to think that my Shepard wanted something more, which is why he left.

Yeah, sorry.  Most interviews have way better lighting.  And soft-focus.

Let's see if we can't figure out something in the style of the Presidium.  Would lend itself to much better (and brighter) lighting and I could get away with a soft focus if I wanted to.

He can be happy if you continue with your "bad ways" you only confront him if you go paragon.

I'm aware of that. Joining a gang isn't a noble thing, but Shepard obviously wanted something better, either to escape the life of a thug, or to find a way to murder and kill in a more legal capacity, seeing as he left for the Alliance.

There are a lot of reasons to join the military, some not so noble.  I mean, you could just look at it as a bigger, tougher gang.

Which is why I said that he may have just joined it to continue killing, if only in a more legal capacity.

My Shepard is a Paragade Earthborn Sole Survivor, and I personally like to think that the reason he joined a gang was to quash the loneliness of not having a family, then thought better of it and decided to make something more of his life.

This is why I like the ambiguity of the backgrounds, nice and open to interpretation. I'd simply like Shepard to be able to comment on it if he goes back to earth, and if Tali and any other love interest is present.

Joined the military to escape loniness and became a sole survivor.  Ouch, that's gotta leave a mark.
