Agreed. The other thing is, if ME3 has less character development, it'd be easier to do. Maybe give them a few conversations, but for the most part, if the focus is on the story, people won't notice so much.

Kasumi was pretty interesting, even if she had no dialogue wheel. It was fun listening to her talking about the latest "news" on the ship.

The fury will still be there:  you know that each character will gather a devoted and slightly crazed fanbase (just speaking from experience, here) that will insist with great bitterness that their favorite character got shorted in the game.

Well you recruited them to stop the collectors from taking humans. Wasn't that mission achieved? Jack said she's gunna "survive it, then split".

I know the squaddies plan on returning, but it's still sorta like "wtf" from a plot standpoint. Jack hates me cuz I romanced Tali while just being friendly. There's no way she'd stay with my Shepard

She changes her "survive then split" dialogue after you gain her loyalty.

More to the point, where else would she go?

Edit: her new dialogue is something like "I know when someone's trying to kill us.  I say we do it to them, first."

SOME squaddies have an easy way to be written out.  Jacob, Miranda, Garrus, Tali, Grunt are written in as though they have literally nowhere else to go.

She wanted to turn the Normandy into a pirate ship, too.
