Hm. I'm comfortably on the fence with this one. I agree with both points of view to an extent. Free exposure can be a boon as long as others aren't profiting from it without paying royalty fees, etc. On the other hand, one's work can also be misrepresented, placed out of context, or used in a manner that the creator of it may not agree with and which may affect the creator's reputation for better or worse without his/her express consent. That too is something that I personally think needs to be taken in to consideration as well.

I think his main upset was that his artwork has been posted here heavily modified... So he asked that one not be posted without his permission on his DA page... And when he came here and said so, Chool basically told him to F off... *Shrug*

Ah! Well, if his work had been heavily modified without his consent I can appreciate his displeasure.

He can try and fight it, but it's futile; it'll just be him and his art who suffer (I remember he threatened to put a big watermark on his art from now on if his stuff spreads beyond his control, which I think is just a tragedy, since his stuff is really good) 

Which goes back to my "he's young" comment... who didn't fight when they were that young when they felt they were being wronged... Regardless of whether he's right or not, he's still going to be upset about it... .max is fully incompatible with Blender, unfortunately they'd be of no use to you.

I'm not much older than him and I can see all the issues there are on both sides. I post my stuff knowing what may happen to it, but I'll only get defensive if something bad is made of it. He still deserves the credit and some control over his own work.

But he really should learn this is the internet.

Possibly, yet if we take that argument a step further then all things in the physical world are best left locked up and out of sight of more or less everyone because they may be potentially abused and/or stolen. That's not cool IMO. He has good reason to report it to the moderators, and I probably would if I felt as wronged as he appears to be.

If we're going to go all out I'd recommend he hire a competent lawyer to peruse the T&A. Interpretation of legal clauses is in many cases all about technicalities.
