But Thane has short legs (or appears to, at least).

Yeah, and coats against wind and such do not help in runs either.

FemShep has also mastered the ability of sprinting in high heels. That counts for something.

Since when?

There's a 2-mile race among the Normandy crew members:

The top three winners:

1. Garrus
2. Shepard
3. Tali

Please explain your reasoning.

Well, Turians have that predator thing going for them, so I suspect they're good runners.

Shepard comes in second because he's Shepard. I can see Tali maybe being ahead of him for a bit thanks to dem legs, but Shepard will have superior endurance (partly thanks to his much greater lung capacity, tali's torso is tiny!)

I'm not convinced about the lung capacity factor. Scientifically speaking we don't know how efficient (or not) the Quarian lung system is, nor the exact proportions of their lungs vs. their body size nor how effective their muscle structure is, etc. Comparing Tali's presumed lung capacity based on the size of her torso to that of Shepard is akin to stating that human females are likely to be less intelligent than human males because human males tend to have larger brains due to being larger in size. However, as reality can attest to, there are women that are very intelligent and in a good number of cases at least as intelligent, if not more so, than a number of their male counterparts. And that's comparing between members of the same species, nevermind comparing it to an alien species. Just saying.

Science!

I know it's popular to imagine machines as being superior to organics with things like that, but I don't expect Legion to achieve a very high speed of running.

He's not like a car with spinning wheels--the most efficient form of locomotion (that has friction as a factor anyway). His legs operate like the legs of an organic, which is a relatively "inefficient" way of moving, at least compared to something like a wheel.

Legion may not move as fast as a car, but he should be able to "sprint" for those two miles. I'd love to see a human try that.

Also predators are evolved (on Earth, anyways) for sprinting, not long distance. So I don't think Garrus has the advantage here.

So, you get to keep the formalwear, then?

Question what is Medi-gel? Seriously, what is it? I get the 'gel' part ... does it contain nano machines or something? Or what?

But two miles? The runner would have to be in top shape and able to run at a constant speed the entire time. My votes still on Legion.

This.

I wonder what Grunt's top speed is and whether it would surpass that of the others over a two mile distance presuming the others' speed decreases during the race? Grunt certainly seems to have the physical endurance being a perfect genetic Krogan specimen from a species that evolved on a physically harsh, violent and brutal world.

Yeah, it's true that there's a lot of factors that could be an issue because she's an alien.

But I do think it's reasonably safe to assume that Shepard would have greater lung capacity, and that it would give him an edge.

Medi-gel is an all-purpose medicinal salve combining an anaesthetic and clotting agent

Yeah, on second thought, I can see Legion probably coming out on top, assuming he can maintain a steady speed (which is very likely).

Running on two legs consumes massive amounts of energy--if his power source can output energy at a fast enough rate (which is very probable), he should be able to maintain it.

Goddamnit, I've read one too many fics in which Legion dies. This is depressing as hell. (I know this isn't Tali related, but I needed to vent).

Don't worry, he's got a backup somewhere.

It'll just be before his adventures with Shepard. :P
