...The dip created by the platforms shielded them from the fire of the  Collectors behind them, but as they climbed back up the other side, they were again vulnerable.  Zaeed took up a position higher on the slope  and started covering the others as they tried to get out of the  depression to a more defensible position.  As Tali started to climb up  past his firing point, she saw a husk rear up behind him, its  cable-wrapped arms grasping powerfully for the mercenary's neck.

Too startled to call out a warning, Tali raised her shotgun and her finger  tightened on the trigger.  Eyes widening, Zaeed threw himself down, his shields sparkling as he caught the edge of the shot.  The husk was smashed aside, shattering as if it was made of glass.  Unbalanced, Tali fell back, landing painfully.

Zaeed stood again, looming over her, face contorted with rage as he hefted his rifle one-handed.  Tali quailed; he didn't know what had happened!

"Girl, you goddam nearly killed me!" he roared.  The mercenary's bleached eye jittered wildly, bloodshot.  Free hand reaching down, he roughly pulled her to her feet.  "Thanks."

If every Ship in the galaxy, frigates all the way up to Dreadnaughts, got together and could focus all their fire on a Bottleneck, like a Mass Relay, they could stand a hell of a chance against the Reapers.

A Reaper can shrug off a Dreadnaught's main cannon strike.

Can it shrug off 80 at once?

Even fewer defeated Sovereign.

Exactly my point. The Reapers rely on surprise tactics. They are not invincible, and they know it. Having lost the element of surprise, they are now not only vulnerable, but desperate.

I dont know, did you see how many there were?

Its still going to be one hell of a battle with them.

To be fair, we don't really know much about them.  Maybe they can create a thousand reapers per "acceptable" race, and they've been doing this for billions of years.  What if they're coming in with over a hundred thousand?  Not much we can do no matter what then :pinched:

They use surprise attacks because thats how they started, thats no guarantee that they still rely on them.

Don't sell yourself short. Some of your stories are among the best Bittersweet stories I've read in a LONG time.

I'm a sucker for a good tearjerker every once in a while, and when I want one, I read something of yours.

Something interesting about the fight with Sovereign. He was basically invincible for most of the fight. Hell, it didn't even care about crashing right into that Cruiser.

It wasn't until Saren died (while Sovereign was ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL of him), that we heard "Its shields are down!" and it immediately got torn apart by the Alliance Navy.

That "feedback" it received from having its control of Saren terminated early seemed to be key to taking it out. I wonder if knocking out their "shields" will be the key to being able to fight them. Maybe Dark Energy will be used to knock out their shields?

In which case we'll detonate a sun or something with dark energy.

Meh, either way, Shepard will come up with something.

Okay. I'm going to be the next to drop off the grid for the night. See you all again tomorrow.

Congrats on continuing the Tali love 4 times over. Let's keep it rolling.

If you haven't already, please read my newest fic

Sensations.

To copy Nuke, I will now post an exert for your reading/ ignoring pleasure.

Keelah se'lai, ya'll!!!!

"She looked out at a land that she could not smell, taste, or touch. She

was out of the ship, but she was not really 'outside'. Without Shepard,

without the only man she had ever loved enough, trusted enough,

to see her face, she never really would be again. For one night she had

known life without the suit and with a heavy dosage of antibiotics and

herbal boosters, she had lived to tell about it.

Out here, though, she had access to neither of those things. Out here

it was only the suit that was keeping her alive until she was either

rescued or starved to death, whichever came first.

So here she stood, right at the crossroads of her own path. She could

stay with what she had known; a life of muted sensations seen from

behind a wall of glass, or she could venture into the unknown. The

events that would follow after were obvious enough, but it was the time

in-between that called to her, that whispered all of the things she

could experience before she was taken to her elders.

It was a choice that she did not make lightly. . ."

Well at this point I'm completely speculating, but ground warfare seems relatively outdated.  While I'm sure the armies would continue to train ground forces, it seems that they would be wise to focus a huge percentage of the budget on navy.

I guess the humans could be behind the quarians based on time, the humans haven't been around long, but that still leaves the turians.  Or are they limited in military build up?  I may have stumbled on my answers

Groudn warfare isn't quite outdated.  I mean, somehow the krogan were instrumental in defeating the rachni.  But, yeah, space superiority should trump just about anything.

Good question on the turians.  But they've got, what, 39 dreadnaughts or something?  Assuming any kind of proportionality with regards to smaller classes suggests that their fleet still isn't close to quarian numbers in size.

But we really just don't know.

Every qurian ship is armed, regardless of classification. Every quarian undergoes some military training before going off to Pilgrimage. The quarians are indeed heavily militarized, but they usually keep to themselves, so that prowess is rarely ever excercised. But ground operations are risky, because of their weak immune-system, so they rely heavily on their engineering.

Seems as if when a Reaper shifts its consciousness into something - or someone - else, it becomes vulnerable.

It may have had something to do with the death of Saren;s husk, taking into account what Legion said is true about the Reapers, them being made up of programs. So if a mjaority of the programs died with Saren, it's possible the Sovereign was disabled by that, for the moment at least.

Humans need to hire the Quarians to build a super dreadnaught to surpass the Destiny Ascension. You know how humans are, they love to one-up everyone! We can call it the Deathstar. None of the other races will get the reference, and it's a pretty badass name when you think about it.

Quarians originally built (though I imagine with Geth labor) that 20 KILOMETER LONG SPACE STATION that Legion's loyalty mission takes place on, so you know they'll be up to the task!

Pretty sure it was acknowledged somewhere in ME1 that if the galaxy knew what was going on, it had the numbers/power to stop the Reapers.

The only thing, then, is to figure out what the butcher's bill is going to be.

True, but Harbinger was at least ASSUMING CONTROL with some safeguards in place.  I think he was buffered from blowback through the Collector General, and it's not as if losing his shields out in dark space is going to hurt him.

But that goes back to the initial question.  How do these armed ships stack up against other race's war ships?  I can get some friends and drive around in 5 cars with bb guns, but 1 tank will take us all out pretty easily.  :pinched:

We pretty much know that 1 krogan is going to be worth a handful of quarians for ground combat.  If they're ships are outmatched by turian/human ships, I don't see the quarians being able to help as much.

Keep in mind, they still need people to pilot these ships, and the quarians can't just throw away people in substandard war ships.
