Wouldn't next generation quarians be ok on their homeworld from birth though?  Assuming they were adapted before the geth drove them out, 300 years wouldn't be enough to override the thousands of years of evolution would it?

I don't know for certain, but I think people (and I guess Quarians) get a lot of their immune system from their mom. Like, a lot of the antibodies an infant has actually came from their mom.

Something like that?

Another thing I've never tried is "staying faithful". Isn't there a special cut scene if you have a romance in ME1 but not in 2?

In order to understand you have to know how a person's immune system works. A child's immune system is made up mostly from a the mother's allergen and disease index. If her index is weakened, the child's can be too. This is especially true among quarians I'd imagine, whose immune systems work on a more symbiotic level than a counteractive one. If the mother is missing those symbionts in her index, the child may not get them at all, and they are at that much more of a risk.

Hmm, I don't like this whole "scientific" angle.  I'm gonna go back to hoping that Bioware adds some kind of deus ex machina that lets the quarians be suit free on their homeworld in a few months :wizard:

Thanks for the (depressing) info though

You pretty much just summed up my last post.

Yeah, Shepard hold the picture of his/her lover interest and looks at it with a smile.
In other words, nothing really happens.

Yeah, pretty sure you just sit in your office alone, and look at the picture on your desk of your LI.

There are always ways around things. Mordin could come up with something. Implants. Gene Therapy.

The biggest problems would be distribution and cost.

I'm assuming there's no special cutscene or animation or anything if you're LI ends up dying on the suicide mission?

I got one! They'll be able to reverse engineer the nanobots used to create Husks, and use them to act as a synthetic immune system for the Quarians, while their real immune systems adapt to their homeworld! B)

Nope.  Bioware really seems to underestimate how much the romance sub plot means to some <_<

Hah, I typed that up before I saw your post.

Well, I'm glad I had the right idea. I have basically no biology education, beyond one beginner biology class in college. :P

I really should be going to sleep, I've been about this thread since it started several hours ago, working while posting.

I think this is the first time I have said ot: Congratulations on 5501 pages, and for annoying Mr. Woo.

Hopefully thread 4.0, we will do it right this time.

My original import to ME2 I wanted to be a kind of "tragic hero", so I had him lock in the romance with Ashley, then leave her to die on Virmire (along with leaving the council to die, letting hostages die in Bring Down the Sky, made him the sole survivor background... I was trying to work in a theme of losing people). I was heavily considering doing this on the ME2 run, but I had never beaten the game before, so I didn't know how to get the characters killed, wanted to see the "full" ending, and wanted the achievement.

This kinda character still seems interesting to me, but I don't think I'll be going for that type of character for my main.

I'd forgotten how addicting populated forums can be. Should probably go to bed. Seems like this is definitely the "chat thread" :)

I think I'd much rather Tali was trapped inside the suit.

The idea of a relationship between her and Shepard being inherently difficult and dangerous makes those few moments when she does take off her mask all the more sweet.

A relationship that can endure anything will survive forever.

The intelligent chat time of day at least.  7-8 hours ago, daily, it goes incredibly fast, and can be hard to keep a conversation going.  At the slow times, no place better than here B)

Two years of anatomy and epidemiology in high school.

Those two years however, equated to a total of four in college. The teacher was an old pro, a doctor for 30 years who had taught at universities. I actually studied disease theory and immunology under him.

Best classes of my life.

Tali: Shepard... I received the synthetic immune system treatment today. Does it... bother you that I have Reaper tech within me?

Shepard: Are you kidding? You should ask Miranda about the Lazarus Project!  There's a reason no one was ever brought back until after we had access to Reaper tech. Trust me Tali, I couldn't care less.

Tali: Oh... well, good. I'm glad it doesn't bother you.

Shepard: So babe, how about we put that new immune system of yours to the test? ;)

I can see your point, but I feel like it would lose its appeal after a while.  Its nice in the beginning that every intimate moment you can spend together is precious.  But once that becomes routine, the combination of routine and danger isn't very appealing.

If the relationship endures the hardships enough to get to a point where Tali could live a normal life, that seems to be enduring a good amount.  At that point, it seems like it would be tougher to adjust to a whole new dynamic, rather than continuing with the whole (at this point routine,) immune system hindrance.

If the relationship is able to survive what we know now, there's really no reason to suspect that they wouldn't still care about each other without the obstacles.  It would just be nice for Tali to be able to experience those things she laments on her loyalty mission (smelling a flower, a simple kiss without risk.)

That's just it though?

Picking up a brick and moving it easy.

Picking up and moving that brick for days or weeks on end is extremely hard.

The greatest test of all is time. If it can survive time, it can endure anything, which is why it appeals to me.
