Tali is useful in game actually though, at least at certain points, Geth/Mech heavy missions or ones with Varren, where the combat drone draws some fire. She just goes down too quick and the pistol/shotgun combo I find never works too well. E-Drain almost doubles her shields, imporving her durability, plus her squad AI is superior to most squad mates. I can't back that up with more than observations though.

With squad incindiary she owns.
Legion is great but he has to put points in AI hacking to get his drone, meaning he can never max out GSB if you max out his passive and combat drone

Tali is a mechanic, fixes engines all day. She can't be that weak. None oif the team are that weak actually, but I'd say that Jack is weaker because she can just use biotics for things, she doesn't have to actually put on muscle

I can't imagine fixing engines would make you very strong, seems like repairs in the ME universe are done with consoles and omni-tools, not lifting and elbow grease. Likewisethe ME wiki states:

"Quarians are generally shorter and of slighter build than humans.
Quarians have an endoskeleton, lips, teeth, and two eyes with eyelids
and tear ducts; they also have three thick fingers on both hands which
include a thumb and an index finger, as well as three toes on each foot.
Their ears or ear analogues differ in a noticeable fashion from those
of humans, with references made to "what [passes] for the quarian
version of an ear" (Ascension, p. 235).

Assuming Tali represents an average quarian physically she will be, at least canonically weaker than Jack. however the fact that she is younger than Mordin probably lets her beat him.

C-Drone draws fire in EVERY battle, so she's useful in EVERYbattle. On Insanity, ya can't use her shotgun at much, this is true, and AI Hacking only on certain missions. Despite that, I am still destroying Insanity mode with her in my squad, armed with basically a Pistol, Combat Drone, and her combat AI. The latter part is the most important. She doesn't die nearly as much as half my squaddies because she doesn't hop over boxes like half my squaddies do. Anyone notice that?

Anyway, Legion isn't available for all but the last 2 missions so he's useless to me.

On PC she dies for me a little more often than other characters, probably about the same as Miranda. I haven't noticed her AI being different than other squaddies, she jumps over crates and gets herself perploded like the rest of em.

Not necesarrily, the playthrough I'm doing right now I plan to get the Repaer IFF as soon as the option is presented. This will let me maximize my use for Legion, as in, I'm going to take him for every subsequent mission.

It's going to be hard on the crew, though....

Tali has to do manula labour though, Jack could just use her biotics. Also Tali is physically bigger than Jack
Just because Quarians are slighter of build doesn't mean they are all physically weaker than your average human
Tali has also recieved military training (shepard says so when you don't hug her during her loyalty mission), jack hasn't

Well Jack is the most powerful human biotic, she doesn't need to lift a muscle

And in the end, she is a woman, and all women aren't going into battle without guns (sometimes Shepard doesn't either) and skillz. And Tali got skillz.

I'm playing on PC too and I've noticed that she dies less than Garrus on most missions

Tali dies the least for me and her drone has saved my ass more times than i can count. Imo, she is the best to have around
