I'm not a producer, but I'm enough of a movie geek/snob to have an educated opinion on the subject.  The Tali romance can't be developed in a first film, it needs that time to grow.  As a producer I want something that I can sell immediately out of the gate and that I can grow with each new entry in the series.  Liara vs Ashley  gives me that opportunity.  I can push a strong sexy female and a vulnerable sexy human looking female, both of which appeal to men.  I know that if I'm a producer I want a love triangle to sell to women, because that is the market I need the love triangle to sell to, and I need to start selling it right out of the gate, otherwise I'll never get those women in the theater for the second film.  Producers like safe choices with blockbuster action films, because they are a large investment.  Ashley vs Liara love triangle is the safest route.  That's Hollywood.

You're right of course, a talimance would develop into a better sequel but not a good first movie

I love that line.  It says so much about her character.  So sad how she's such a good person, even though it seems useless in that people will never see the real her anyway.  Its a good thing Shep can help break down that doubt

The sad fact remains that, if there ever were a Hollywood ME movie, it would probably be a bucket of awful. Allow me to call my first witness: every video game movie ever made in the history of ever.

The only half-good acceptations seem to be movies that just say 'screw the game's plot, let's just keep the title the same and give a few characters the same name and make the rest up!'.

I'm looking at you, Resident Evil.


I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a series of CG and anime shorts like Animatrix or the Halo box set. That way several different stories could exist and I promise you that at least one of them would have our Tali as an LI.

If a movie was made, chances are Tali would never be a LI. Instead, the plot of the games would be reworked so that there would be a love triangle between Shepard, Ashley, and Liara so that the producers could milk that for all three movies. I'm not a producer, but I'm enough of a movie geek/snob to have an educated opinion on the subject.  The Tali romance can't be developed in a first film, it needs that time to grow.  As a producer I want something that I can sell immediately out of the gate and that I can grow with each new entry in the series.  Liara vs Ashley  gives me that opportunity.  I can push a strong sexy female and a vulnerable sexy human looking female, both of which appeal to men.  I know that if I'm a producer I want a love triangle to sell to women, because that is the market I need the love triangle to sell to, and I need to start selling it right out of the gate, otherwise I'll never get those women in the theater for the second film.  Producers like safe choices with blockbuster action films, because they are a large investment.  Ashley vs Liara love triangle is the safest route.  That's Hollywood.

Most people in Hollywood still laugh at the idea of putting the words "video game" and "plot" in the same sentence unfortunately.  A producer looks a a property like ME and says 'what is the cheapest and quickest way to get a movie based on this property into theaters?'  ME would never get the type of writer or director willing enough to take risks in casting and writing in order to stay faithful to the actual plotlines, the property would be treated as a cash cow and nothing more.

YO! for kicks I just made a Quarian name generator. I've tested a few names and I've gotten cool results here are the rules, give it a try!

First four letters of middle name (if less then 4 use your whole middle name)
Add an apostrophe.
Last four letters of last name (if 4 letters or less in last name spell it backwards)
Do you live with your parents? If yes add a space and “nar” if not add a space and “vas”
Add another space and add your first name without the first or last letter (if first name is 3 letters or less add “ya” to your first name spelled backwards).
If yes to above "vas/nar" stop here.
If no add a space and “nar” followed by another space and take the first two letters of your father's first name and add to it the last three letters of your mother's maiden name. (if there are too few letters in either name, just use the whole name)
