A Geth army on the move would be viewed as a threat by nearly all organics.  They'd be pretty much be guaranteed support (even if blamed by some for bringing the Geth out).

We're really getting deep into this game of what-ifs.

They also have 17 million people compared to who knows how many
geth.  (I assume the number has to be huge given how fast the geth seem
to be able to add numbers,) and the quarians have nowhere to hide
civilians.  They just can't afford a war.  All of their army is built for defense against slavers and other threats of the Terminus systems.  They aren't equipped for all out war like turians and humans.

Which is why they would probably, if up against too large of an enemy, keep the enemies engaged with their warships while the rest of the flotilla retreats.

But now we have half of this largest fleet in the galaxy not participating in the battle at all.  If the war ships can't defeat the geth army, what good is having the rest retreat?  Travel is very quick in the ME universe.  The geth could hunt down the weak ships and just pick them off without trouble.

Not too deep, a quarian geth war is a possibility (I don't ever see it happening, but its not outlandish.)  The issue then becomes what does the council do?  I don't see how they're guaranteed help.  They would be blamed for bringing the geth out, and the flotilla isn't even allowed in council space IIRC.

At this point we would have an extremely weakened race (maybe beyond the point of recovery if enough people fought,) that everyone hates.  Powerful people all the time do stuff like expelling the quarians knowing that it will result in their death.  There's just no reason to expect the council to change their tune and help them.

Their goal wasn't to destroy the flotilla, they simply attacked the flotilla to get something they wanted.  Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but there's some difference

Beat me to it :wizard:, what i originally meant was that this crap put the council very high on my hit list, if Cerberus helps take them out i'm happy, but for now all i can do is go back to ME1 and kill those bastards

I'm with you, I'll be very disappointed if we're working with the council/Alliance or Cerberus in ME3.  Both sides are bad in their own way, and neither can do anything really to help you at this point.

Shepard has become something greater than either of them. He is his own banner. A call to arms from him would reach across the galaxy.

Well not that easy, or we wouldn't have an ME3.  More like a call to arms, and going around to each race to do a mission to earn their trust :wizard:

The big question here is how Anderson could affect the council's decision, because if Shepard asks him to help the quarians he will do it

Of course. But we can already safely assume that the krogan and the rachni are on board, two species that nearly wiped out the galaxy on two seperate occasions.

I don't know about you, but I don't get the feeling that Anderson can do anything.  The turian seems to be the boss, and the asari relegated their defense duty to the turians on top of that.  The salarians have no reason to support Anderson.  It isn't like he's a good politician either.  I know Anderson's a good guy, I just don't see what he can do.

But if a fleet of, let's say, ten million civilians is parked outside the Citadel, begging for help against the Geth who wish their total destruction...no person with a heart or politician with a brain would turn them down.
A lot of people may dislike the quarians, but still I don't think the racism is so deep that they would knowingly send them to extinction.

OPENING SCENE OF MASS EFFECT 3

The Turian Councilor is bound and gagged in the back of the Mako.
Tali and Shepard drag him onto a dusty plain somewhere in West Texas.

Tali removes his gag.

Turian Councilor: "Ah yes..."

Shepard: "Don't say it, I will skull f*ck you if you say it. As you can see by my choice in women, I don't give a damn about chirality."

Tali: "That's pretty extreme Shepard..."

Shepard: "Tali, get in the mako. This bastard is about to reap the whirlwind."

As far as the rachni are concerned, Shepard is Space-Jesus.

I think we're good.
