They probably just don't drink it. Those glasses are there all the time, if I'm not mistaken.

Seems like when I forget to wash my coffee cups. Just today I remembered that I had a cup of coffee on a shelf that hadn't been touched in about a month. Real nasty.

I'm no biologist, but it seems to me that the game somewhat exagerates the consequences of eating food of the opposite chirality. 

Wouldn't it only be an issue when trying to eat protein rich food? Since the amino-acids that make up the protein would be of the opposite chirality, and the quarians/turians wouldn't be able to properly break it down?

Because they bid all their points on one thing? Normally it would make most sense to try to bid low, but most people simply want to win something they really like, or anything at all, and that compounded with the fact that you are only able to win two items during the contest -period no matter what- would probably lead to everyone bidding 100% to win what they desire. I'm not really surprised, if I had any points I would do the same thing. The only people that would probably even be able to win two items are the ones going for the less exciting stuff, and they would likely need 20k points to do it.
