Raphael diSanto’s “Tali’s Letter”
They tell me you're dead.
Part of me doesn't believe it, refuses to believe it. But the other part of me saw the Normandy explode. I watched it all, from the tiny little porthole window in the escape pod. So close, and yet so far away. Close enough to imagine for just one second that I could have saved you. We saw the final pod jettison, and when the Alliance frigates came to collect us I was so sure that you would be on it, with Joker. I was so sure, Shepard.
But I was wrong. Joker said he saw you get thrown out into space. There's a part of me that knows you must be dead. The engineer in me, the part that knows that a Hughes-Mystromm Field Converter will always run thirty percent hotter under load and it doesn't care how much you wish for it not to. Physics is an unforgiving master, Shepard.
But I still dream. I still hope. Hope was all we had left in those few final days before Ilos. Hope was the gift you gave to us. You taught us how to hope again. All of us. Garrus, Joker, everyone on the Normandy. There was no hope. Not really. Not after we learned what Sovereign was. What the Reapers were. What we faced. It was no surprise that Saren accepted his fate. How can one fight a god? But you gave us that hope. Your absolute refusal to give up, to stop, to roll over and die.
You humans have a saying. Where there's life, there's hope. Until I traveled with you to Ilos and fought beside you on the Citadel I never truly understood that. But I understand now. In order to have a change of fortunes at the last minute, you must push your fortunes to the last minute. I still hope, Shepard. I know there can be none, but still I hope. You taught me that.
You will never read this letter. Just know that in the heart of this one small, insignificant Quarian traveler you will never be forgotten. All of the things I wanted to say that were unsaid between us. All of the things I wanted to do that were not done. They will exist here, always, as will you.
I love you. I did not realize how much until it was too late. Too late for us. But maybe not too late for hope.
Come back to me Shepard. I'm still hoping.

Have you all forgotten the true meaning of Tali fandom? It's not about who starts threads or how long they last.
It's about making in-jokes and posting pictures and talking about how much Tali is rad.
It's also about hips and asses.
Let us cast aside the chains of hate and oppression and put on the chains of love and . . .not-oppression.
What'da say? Don't do it for yourselves, do it for Miss Zorah.
Remember; she's the one with the shotgun. O_O

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Physical Characteristics
Overview: Quarians follow the same bipedal morphology demonstrated by most species in the Mass
Effect universe. They feature an endoskeleton and Human like bone structure.
Considering what we can see through the visor, their skin is likely to be
similar to Humans rather than like Turians, Krogan and Drell. Based on
Shepard’s height; Quarians, in their suits, tend to be only slightly shorter or
same at the same height as Humans wearing shoes. The helmet may add an
additional ¾” to 1” height.
Arms: Two slender arms with elbows that
bend with same mobility as average.
Hands: Two hands ending in three digits.
Two long fingers and one long opposable thumb attached to a small palm.
Legs: Two legs of average length and
size with a recurve shin.
Feet:
Two feet of average size. Male
Quarians exhibit two long toes while female Quarians display three toes. Two
long toes and one short toe on the outside of the foot. Due to the tightness of
the environment suit it is unlikely that any further toes are hidden inside the
suit.
Body: Quarians tend to be slighter of
build in the body with the notable exception of wider hips on females and wider
shoulders on males. Mobility is similar to average.
Head:
One head of normal size.
Neck: Females tend to have slimmer necks
than average. Male necks may also be slender, but it is difficult to observe
with various wrappings around the male head and neck.
Eyes: Eyes are the most visible feature
of Quarian faces. Two eyes that are very slightly slanted glow from behind the
visor. The slant puts the outer part of the eye higher than the lower part.
This slant is almost unnoticeable. Close
inspection shows that the iris of the eye is the glowing part and not the sclera.
While Tali’s eyes glow more brightly in the second Mass Effect, I have also
noticed that there is a slight change in the helmet she wears too. It is possible
that she changed to a less opaque visor or that there is a brighter HUD in the
new helmet.
There are four theories
regarding Quarian eyes.
Bioluminescent:
It is possible that Quarians may actually have glowing eyes. However, having
glowing eyes may impede vision. Terrestrial examples only show bioluminescent
features near the eyes rather than in the actual eye.
Considering that light beams do not interfere
significantly when crossed, it may still be possible if Quarian brains evolved
to filter out their own eye light. However, there is still no real evolutionary
advantage to bioluminescent eyes unless there is a complete lack of external
light sources like a star or starlit night.
Reflective:
Tapetum lucidum within the eye could provide visible light coming from Quarian
eyes. However, this would have to be many levels more intense than “eye shine”
find on terrestrial creatures in order to be seen through the visor.
The visor itself would cause
problems with anyone seeing the eye shine. Incoming light would be dimmed by
passing through the visor and the eyeshine would be dimmed by passing again
through the visor. It is more likely that any reflected light is coming from an
in-suit HUD that displays critical suit information and perhaps IFF to help
identify individual Quarians when suit design isn’t enough to go by.
Cybernetic:
Both the Illusive Man and the Collector General have glowing eyes. Both are
likely from cybernetic enhancement or replacement. Considering that Quarians do have some minor
cybernetic augmentation (mostly to boost the immune system) they may have
enhanced eyes that integrate into the suit in order to provide vital
statistics. This is beneficial if the suit visor is cracked or damaged to the
point where an HUD could not be displayed.
Mixture:
While not strictly a theory on its own, a mixture of the three above is
possible. This may be more likely than any one particular reason for the
glowing quality seen in Quarian eyes.
Ears: The only note we have is from Mass
Effect: Ascension. This only mentions a “Quarian equivalent of an ear,” leaving
a large amount of speculation possible. Everything from an elvish point to ear
holes is possible with this description. Unless we see a Quarian without a
helmet, it is unlikely that we’ll know what this truly means.
Nose: One long, smooth and slender nose.
While it is possible that there may be more than two nostrils, there is no
evolutionary benefit to more nostrils in the Quarian’s earth-like natural
habitat.
Mouth: Considering the sound of Shepard
and Tali kissing, it is likely that the lips are also human like.
Teeth: Though Quarians eat a mostly
vegetarian diet (due to space/resource restrictions on the floatilla), they
have been known to go after meat when it proves to be compatible with their
physiology. It is likely they have teeth similar to our own, if not exactly.
Hair: It isn’t known for certain if
Quarians have hair on their head, but eyebrows appear visible through the
visor. This makes the case for hair very
likely. However, hair would have to be kept short in order to comfortably fit
inside the helmet.
Immune System: The Quarians are the only
known race to use an “adaptive” immune system.
It functions by allowing various germs into the body and forming a
symbiotic relationship with them. The microorganisms that did not interact with
their biochemistry would simply be passed through the body. Those that did
interact and could not be coaxed into a symbiotic relationship would cause actual
illness. Though this did not impede Quarians from settling new worlds, it was
still considered weaker than an active immune system found in all other
species.
Post-exile Quarians suffer from
a weakened version of this already weak immune system. This is a result of both
the mostly sterile environments of the fleet and from rarely, if ever, being exposed
to microorganisms in their life.
It is possible for Quarians to survive for a
time outside their suit in an “unclean” ship with the proper amount of
preparation. This includes sterilization, immunoboosters and herbal
supplements.
