Dreads and heavy cruisers would be needed to draw fire, and keep the Reapers away from the carriers.  Lighter cruisers would probably be good for hit-and-runs on the flanks.

Frigates and fighers would be the best weapon, but alone they wouldn't stand a chance.

It will be... our finest hour...

and that would probably work, if there werent so many reapers...which can shoot at multiple ships at one time with their super-tentacle lasers

Sovereign was the vanguard of the reaper fleet...probably one of the most bad-ass reapers (they wouldn't send the weakest first).

so we do have a way to win... THE REST ARE ALL PANZIES WITH NOTHING BUT HEAVY PISTOLS! VICTORY IS ASSURED

I'm not saying that.  I'm saying that they probably don't all have 20km long guns.

And if Shepard can rally the galaxy...that's going to be a *lot* of ships stacked against them.

They probably have defensive lasers of some kind.

Still, if no one made fighters before the Alliance, maybe they don't have sufficient defense.

It seemed like Soverign's only weapons were those tentacle beams
He made no attempt to shoot at the Normandy only the stationary ships

Probably designed to combat large ships.
Like the Death Star, in a way. They don't expect smaller ships to be a threat.

And how wrong they were.

I imagine most of the Reapers are pretty comparable in power.

Also, Reapers do have a "main gun" that goes the length of their "spine," kinda like dreadnaughts have. I can only imagine the insane damage that kind of weapon would cause.

Reaper cannons got their firepower from their mass effect cores, or that is what the holy codex said.

Like I said, turn the Citadel into a giant mass accelerator and launch asteroids at them.

It might work.

Haha.

Although, it does seem like the Reapers don't have any "area of attack" ability that they could use if being swarmed, other than just ramming into them.

Of course, he would say that.
Just like the Persians in 300 said "our arrows will blot out the sun".

They got theirs.

Probably the reason why the Ascension couldn't hang in the fight longer.

The persians weren't colossal AI dreadnoughts forged in the fires of Mordor.

Yes that, that was the most "epic fail" moment of ME1
We'd been told that the Turian fleet was the most badass thing in the galaxy for the entire game then Soverign runs over one of their ships without a second thought

Well, I don't think Harbinger cared about the Ascension at all. It was just the Geth messing it up. I imagine Harbinger's main gun could've one-shotted the ascension. But his priority was getting to the Citadel and calling in the other reapers.

But they were a really really big army.
And when the Reapers come, they will probably be the ones outnumbered.

Meh. Easier to just fly fighters into them at FTL. I dislike sci-fi univeres that have FTL travel not in another dimension. FTL kamikaze ships are the perfect weapon.

I exploited that to good effect against the Krogan AI... they would always turn around and charge the drone behind them and buy me extra time to shoot them. Could probably adapt the strategy to Reapers... ^_^

So Shepard is going to get together a team of suicidal kamikaze fighter pilots?

Probably not one-shotted.
"At two kilometers long, its spinal-mounted main gun is likely capable of
penetrating another dreadnought's
kinetic barriers with a single shot."

From ME wiki.  And that's talking about an average dreadnought...the Ascension is well above average.
