This is probably a more dumb question, but is tali able to be romanced in ME1? I never actually attempted it, but if it is I will probably go back and make one to romance her.
Jerk move, yes, massive inconsistency in role playing aspect of the game, yes.
There is a silver lining though. That reassured what the romance was about, two people coming together because of trust and strong feelings for each other, despite not even being able to see what she looks like. We're left to analyze Tali's feelings and subtle actions instead of comparing her face to Jack's and Miranda's. It makes the romance stronger as a whole, and I think it will only help for when they reveal her in ME3
