Tali: Daddy... I made this for you today in kindergarten...
Rael: Not right now Tali. I'm working. Go show your mother.
Tali: Oh... okay. I love you daddy.
*Rael continues to click away at his console, engrossed in the defense plans for the impending slaver attack. Tali goes to show her mother the capacitor she built with scraps, small tears rolling down her tiny cheeks.*
See, now this kinda thing actually makes me mad at Tali's
mom. Yes, Rael is a dick for ignoring his daughter, and he definately earns my anger, but where was Tali's mom in this picture? Yes, she was apparently there, but Tali barely mentions her, leading me to wonder about some things.
I'm a father, and I can't imagine being this distant to my son, but if I were in Tali's mom's shoes, and my wife was ignoring my son for the sake of work, I'd definately have a good, long,
loud sit-down with her about it, as often as necessary until something changed. And if nothing changed on that front, I'd do
everything I could to be there for my son, hopefully enough that I'd get more than just a passing mention when my son is asked about his parents.
So, yeah, there's stuff we don't know, and I could be getting angry at Tali's mom for no good reason, but with how it's played out so far, she deserves a good bit of the anger pointed at Rael directed at herself too.
(Not trying to defend Rael by
any means, just in case it looks that way to someone reading this.)
