Heh, funny story, I thought she WAS a LI in the first game, so for my first five playthroughs I tried to find a way to romance her, then found out later you couldn't.

I was sad. I didn't have the slightest interest in Ash or Liara.

I actually disliked the romance in Mass Effect, I do like Ash and Liara, but I thought the romance was rubbish. And yes, Tali interested me as a LI far more than either of the two.

After I started talking to one of the LIs, I felt like I was forced into the romance, like I didn't have a choice.

This is very much true. Ash assumes you love her even if you don't talk with her at all.

I know. Image IPB
That's what annoyed me. I just wanted to talk and learn some things about her. But no, I was forced into the romance.

Yeah. There really should be a convo where you could confirm that you either are or are not interested in her that way. In Liara's romance there is a convo like that.

In terms of characters, Ash and Liara are fine, tough marine chick and innocent but deadly biotic force of nature scientist girl.

They just never appealed to me as a love Interest. Mass Effect is a game that let's you build a character and make choices, to let you make those choices as if you were there. If I was in Shepard's shoes, I wouldn't be interested in Ash or Liara, they just don't have any qualities I can actually respect.

"I'm an alliance soldier, it's in my blood."

Nope, you're not. You're a xenophobic whiner b**** who annoys the hell out of me.

Agreed.

"Cerberus. I'll never work for an organization like that."

Really?

REALLY?

Because I could totally see you working for an organization like that. And hey, see that turian behind me? Yeah, the one with a crater in his face? He's with me too. Cerberus is pro human and most pro humans HATE turians, but Garrus sucks it up. And hey! See that other alien behind me? The one with the visor? Cerberus attacked her people, tried to blow up one of their ships. They both have every reason in the world to hate Cerberus, but they joined up for ME. Yeah... go back to the council you snivelling... ugh...

I REALLY hated Horizon...

I'm starting to think it was made to hate horizon, all the options after ash pretty much say you hate it. And if that was their entire hope, they nailed that bull right between the ****ing eyes cause god damn, The hate i have for it compared with that of Qwib Qwib.

I never thought that myself.  In ME1 she was the secretly badass mechanic who outlived Krogan in heavy armor.  That was the main reason I liked her.  I also liked her whole race, it just appealed to me.  I'm a techy person, more likely to fix something than throw it away.  My watch is a perfect example of this.  The fact that her whole race is techy just appealed to me.  The only reason I romance her every time is because when I first found out it was possible I couldn't stop shaking my head and smiling.  That whole playthrough every time I thought about it I smiled.  I decided to trust my instincts and continue to pursue the romance.

Your instincts speak true.

See, I didn't read anything about ME2 before playing, so I had no idea that Tali would even be in the game let alone an LI.
When she made her first cameo I was happy, when I found she was recruitable, I was overjoyed. When Kelly gave that line; "I think she wants to be more then friends," I fliped right the **** out. My face was in a constant state of: :o for, like, nine hours.

It was ruined for me. I saw the video of the final romance scene before I even had my hands on a copy. I regret ever clicking that link.

Not needed. Just a little steamed because some pretentious bastard thinks he can come here and talk down to us when he hasn't done a single damn thing to help forward Tali as a love interest.

I know. My biggest complaint of ME1 was the romance being so forced.

You couldn't talk to Ash/Kaiden/Liara without having to do the romance scene. So now, whenever I make a new ME1 file, I ignore them, unless I want to have them as an LI.

I usually play male, so talking to Kaiden was no trouble, it was buddy-buddy. Talking to Ash was difficult because she is just not for me, but she wants to be. Liara wants the same thing.

Playing as female, Ash talks were easy, Kaiden talks were not. And Liara still wants Shepard.

I do like Ash, Kaiden and Liara, but I have other preferences, other preferences that the game would not grant.

What I will say for ME1 was that I liked the fact there was always the option of reverting to 'friends' if you wanted to stop with a romance.

In the second game the romances feel a little more natural, but there only seems to be a 'Love' or 'Rip out heart' choice.
Needs middle ground, I think.

I totally agree.

It's sad, Ash ALWAYS goes on about how if their backs are against the wall, the aliens will abandon them.

REALLY?

Cause as it turns out, Tali stood up to her people for me despite Cerberus's history, Garrus joined up with me grinning like an idiot despite having half his face blown off, Wrex gave me the equivelent of a ****ing hug, and even Liara, psycho **** that she may have become, went through hell to get my body back from the Collectors and the Shadow Broker. And you're calling ME a traitor?

Yeah... the aliens REALLY turned their backs on me Ash... how could I ever have been stupid enough to trust them...

There is a middle ground. You are still fully capable of breaking up with someone gently, they will still be upset, but they will not hate you either. Alternatively, ME2 actually allows you to not pursue a romance with a certain character, unlike the first gameImage IPB

Thankfully I found the whole all race of females not too corny and could get over it, I was really into science and that sort of stuff when I was young and it has still carried a little bit till now so I didnt mind her too much. So I have her for all, but one love interest in ME1, then there was the 1 I slaved myself through with Ash.... ughhh.

I'm sadly about to do the same now with Miranda, I just cant get it out of my head I want to do the LI with Tali again, but Im someone who wants to explore everything in the game from the male character standpoint(the one female I just couldnt finish too much Kaiden hitting on me to stand). But Miranda is such a monotone ****, i just have this loathing feeling for her every time she speaks, god damn I dont think they could have made a more cocky person in a game than her.

I was more sad about the whole situation with Ash.  While she needs to chill about me not calling or whatever, she's got me dead to rights on Cerberus.  We saw them do some hair-raising sh*t together, and now I'm working with them?  Some suspicion is in order.  And she is indeed a soldier and can't just drop everything to go save the galaxy.  It was just a crappy situation and anger on both sides would only make it worse.

Now, I was raging about the abducted colonists, but that's not really the subject here.
