I like the idea accept I can't see a reason to hide it from Tali.  I don't see any political fallout from such a thing

Who knows?  And if so what would Tali's reaction be?  Happy because she has a mother thats alive?  Sad that she this happened?  Angry that her father did such a thing and (in a way) punished HER for it?
