Morning Tali thread! So I popped in last night but it seemed weird and cliquish last night. things were also going so fast that a little post I made seemed to get completely ignored/missed. Figured I'd post it again:



So I have this friend who's a dentist and we just got off the phone, catching up and what not. Anyways I got to talking about ME 2 and I figured I would ask him about what it would be like to kiss an alien species in medical terms. Now we both know this is just sci-fi and what not but his immediate reaction was it would be absolutely dangerous for both species involved (doesn't matter if its human/asari, human/turian, human/quarian, etc). Not only do we have a bunch of bacteria living in our mouths and on our skin, but the enzymes in our mouth are there to begin the process of breaking down food for digestion.



So I figure we can gloss over the fact that those bacteria present in Shepard's mouth are what most likely cause Tali's allergic reaction. Assuming Shepard is able to sterilize other areas a little better thanks to Mordin's advice, the enzymes present in both Tali's and Shepard's mouths could very likely cause issues of their own, perhaps triggering taste buds (sweet, salty, bitter, sour, and savoriness) and likely even a tingling sensation!



Of course the most likely outcome is that both tongues would swell and they would choke to death... But they didn't so likely the kisses only caused minor, hopefully pleasurable sensations different from normal kissing.



I'm pretty sure my friend's wife is worried about me at this point, but I thought I would share that interesting bit of insight.

Well as has already been determined, there's no danger of the bacteria/diseases actually bothering a Quarian or a Turian for that matter. Anything that bothered us would have no idea what to do with their biology.

The whole 'you'll die' thing always somewhat perplexes me. Do we really think all the crap that ends up in our mouths is supposed to be there? No one ever syphoned gas from a tank before? Just because you get gasoline in your mouth doesnt kill you.

Right, the bacteria as an illness doesn't matter, its the allergic reaction. But I thought the interesting part was about enzymes and how they would trigger different sensations in their mouths, or at least Shepard's because we know his biology.

Yes, that part is interesting. I'll have to look into it more, though I'm a decent way off from that part in my current story I might want to try to work it in.



The digestives enzymes aren't super strong, so as long as Quarian digestive systems work similarly I would expect you wouldn't have to worry about pain.



As for taste, well, everyone 'tastes' a little different in that respect.

Thanks! Trying to balance between the light and dark. The moral choices in the regular game were alittle too black and white for my taste

Plus one of the things I wanted to do in this story is show WHY people ended up together and how they got there.
