Thane? If he dies, then yes, his life will technically change. If he lives, then no--his life will continue being the same. Except he probably won't work as an assassin anymore.

Legion? Maybe. Too many variables with him. Like what exactly happens when he rejoins the geth and and all their experiences get shared back together.

Mordin? How's his life going to change? Because he'll die in a few years? :P I presume you're talking about the genophage. If it gets cured, nothing about his life will change. Just part of his paradigm will shift a little.

My gut says that some of the current 12 will die in ME3. There are some characters in ME2 that have been set up as potential recruitable characters in ME3 that you cant recruit yet.

Im thinking ME3 will be set for at least 1+ years after the event of ME2. Thane will be dead, and Mordin will have one foot out the door.

ME3 will be 'happier'

The third act of a three-part story structure is generally the happier one, because that's when the problems and drama that the second act (ME2) established, start being worked towards getting resolved by the protagonists.

The second part is generally darker because that's when a lot of the drama happens, and when the problem at hand gets established.

BUT, this IS the third and final act of the story. The climax of the entirety will happen there and then. If it didn't, then Bioware needs better writers.  Everything and anything relevant HAS TO and WILL happen in ME3.

Sure it'll be happier, but thats the declining action of the story arc, when everything is resolved. I expect most of that "happy" stuff to be shown at the end of the game.

Still lurking, damnit.

And I believe firmly, that ME3 is based on forming new alliances throughout the galaxy. And the epic battle is show in the movie.

As long as Tali laughs (for real) in ME3, I'm going to call that a happier moment.

I think the Mass Effect movie will be a prologue of Mass Effect 1.  A sort of, What happened before the first crew got together.

Here's hoping I get a computer that can run ME3, then. We got lucky - the computer I'm running ME2 on BARELY made the graphic card qualifications.

I didn't say that there won't be a climax in ME3. Of course there will be.

A story's climax doesn't =! its drama. The climax is the resolution of the drama.

Tali laughs with tears in her eyes and a force grimace across her face.  Multiple suit ruptures, her visor cracked broken over one eye. Her Quarian blood pours out in a royal purple as she presses down on the giant gash across her abdomen.  The Collectors had won. But she knew she could change that.  She pulled out the dagger strapped in her boot and plunged it deep into the SSV Normandy-2's drive core.  A glorious light engulfed Persius' arm and the Reapers were no more.

Meh, I hope not, because we have a book covering that already. And books will fill some blanks between ME1 -> ME2 and ME2 -> ME3.

If the actual, boring Reaper battle would be in the movie, think about how much else we would get to do in ME3.

If by movie you mean the live action film that would be the most absoluteley asinine thing that BIoware/Holltwood could ever do. ANybody who sees it that didn't play the games will have almost no clue as to whats going on, and they will likely ****** off almost all of the established fan bass from the game. ESPECIALlY ME!

What page? And Salarians only live UP TO 40.  Being 30 human years old is probably like being in your 80s

Still, all of that happens at the END.  It would make no sense to end the game half-way through and the rest of the game as some sort of dream sequence prologue.

Is that so? Think about it. If the reaper battle would be in game, it should either be half of the game's lenght in it, leaving not much to do beside some reaper battle. Unless they leave the ULB-option, which would ****** off anyone with more than two braincells.

And if in the movie, they would show what would Shepard look like, who did he romance, was he paragon/renegade, etc, would ****** people off.

So are you thinking, that they wouldn't put a recap in the movie, if it would end the whole plot in the series?

Not entirely sure where you are comming from as far as the reaper battle taking half the game depending on how they shoose to do this it could be very very good especialy if the game is significantly longer.

And if in the movie are you talking about not having shep and company in it at all, and we just see the galaxy as a whole fighting?
Edit: They could and would have to put some form of recap in the movie just to keep it from being an epic failure if done this way. But a recap is not going to be enough to make the characters good or believable.

Look at it this way - once the game is resolved, if the Quarians regain their home world the Admiralty Board will disband - its only purpose is to maintain martial law over the Migrant Fleet.  No Migrant Fleet, no Admiralty Board.  Tali would be free to do whatever she wanted.

Im thinking the end of ME3 will be about DESTROYING the reapers with that giant space cannon Cerberus found. It wont be like Shepard having a fistfight with each and every Reaper.

I'm not taking any chances. One one file I have her exonerated on the other I have her exiled (because I am of the opinion they don't deserve someone like her amoung them. And I'm a damn selfish bastard at times)
