But it's a little over the top when people are thinking about quarians as the dirt they're walking on. That's a little bit beyond racism.

It's just that the racism allows for easy conflict. You can do a lot with it. From a writing standpoint, it would be really boring to read about how awesome and great Shepard's life is with Tali. There's nothing for them to overcome. The racism is very useful, as it presents something they have to overcome together.

It really isn't.

A lot of people are actually like that.

A lot more than you'd want to give credit for.

My parents had a rule growing up for me and my sister.

No dating blacks, and they're fairly open minded.

My uncle was a white supremecist.

Needless to say, I was disgusted...

Regardless, if people want to write something, to hell with anyone who doesn't like it. They're free to not read.

If you guys are tired of stories you don't like, then write one yourselves that you do like.

They just gotta think about this some more.  I mean...this is FANFICTION we're talking about, but...

I think you cant ignore it, though, because it's the worst kind of racism. It's an almost casual disregard for quarians as a second class of 'sort of people'.

Okay, there's obviously some miscommuncation here.  Let me clear it up now.  I'm not insulting you guys.  While I will not lie and say that everyone here writes perfect fics (and I am not claiming my skills are better), I don't mean to be insulting.  If that's how you read my replies, I apologize.  I'm just pointing out what I've noticed.  Also, I was trying to get a handle on what people thought were the best and worst qualities of Tali fics they've read, so don't think my issues are the only ones worth talking about.

I believe fully in the rights of free speech, and am of the opinion that if you want to write or draw it, no matter what it is, you should be able to do so without people saying you shouldn't. The onus is on the viewer not to look. Suffice it to say, it's a touchy issue.

Best qualities? Weaving plotilines, characteres you get attached to, even fan ones, interesting takes and twisting of perspective.

Worst? Mary Sues. Poor Grammer. Poor Formatting. Poor Storytelling.
