That's why I love these games, you can just pretend it matters that you are an Engineer and that that will make you and Tali seem closer. You can pretend taking Tali on Virmire will make a difference when she says "I watched you as you ordered to save Chief Williams". She says that line whether she was there or not, but it still adds value to my playthrough when I do it.
