Poor anology.  Neither abacus nor calculator has any value on par with a sentient being.

Just stating this from Xen's perspective as to why she might want to keep them somewhat sentient.

I'm sure that the theoretically still-sentient geth will appreciate having hard blocks put on their behavior in your scenario.  They'll just love knowing that certain courses of action will be absolutely denied to them by forcible programming.  I know I would.  Oh, wait.

The geth used to be VI's, there were never any blocks, which could be applied after Xen's taking over.

You wouldn't mind, because you couldn't think about it. (Ever read 1984?)

Said blocks would still be abhorrent.

Edit:  ^^^^ And that wouldn't make it any less wrong.  Arguably more, actually.

I'm not arguing whether or not it's wrong.

I'm just saying there isn't enough data to judge her and her motivations.

We don't know for sure why she believes what she believes.

I'm trying to come to grips with that through this project.

And I'm saying her motivations are beside the point.  If my life was full of tragedy or whatever, that wouldn't excuse any genocidal plots I came up with.  We know what she wants.  Why she wants it is not the issue.

I don't think Jones is arguing that with you Buddha.

Fine.

My mistake for trying to understand the flaws behind her beliefs.

I don't know why I even bothered.

Relax Jones. You too Buddha. No need to argue. We clearly have differing perspectives. Let's not bicker over it.

Okay guys?

No need to get riled up.  Understanding is fine, but it's not the point of the debate, I think.

TT thinks reducing sentients to automatons is okay, I don't.

Edit:  And I apologize if I seemed hostile to you.  That was not my intent.

I never said I agreed with the ethics. Addendum: Hrrm, this seems to have been the main point of discussion on your end, so yeah, I don't agree with the ethics. But they're not unimaginable either, should worst come to worst. (Or if I'm in a particularly bad mood and playing Darogade)

However, the methods might still work.
(And as I said before, my canon will certainly opt for peace, only my Rene|Tali|Darogade would join her)

A cold day on Noveria, chapter two

Chapter two is up and done, whoo!

-----------------------------------------------

Shepard sat there silently, in his thoughts. He sighed again and lowered his eyes down, focusing at a simple coffee stain on the table, suddenly finding it very interesting.
”Wish it was that simple” he whispered.
”Wanna talk about it” the helmsman questioned sincerely. Shepard chuckled at this.
”No... but thanks Jo-” he started to reply, but the offer to listen to him made him change his sentence in midair. ”Jeff” the commander finished with a weary smile on his sombre face.
Activating the display on his private workspace he started to type in the report for the Alliance brass.

Neither do I. It's abhorrent.

I'm just saying that it comes from somewhere and it's emotional, even if she comes across as cold.

She cares about the Fleet and her people.

I think that warrants forgiveness, considering the fact that she is bound to fail.

That's fair.  I pitied Saren, too.  His despair forced him to contemplate a course of action where his people becoming like the Collectors was the reward.

That's all I'm asking from the majority of you.
And if a few of you would convert into Xen-philes/Daromancers/w.e. that'd be just grand.

Not forgiveness of the act.

You can't forgive something that cruel.

But she hasn't done anything yet.

So, I can forgive her for the belief.

It´s a noble thing you are trying to do Liv. Daro needs some understanding, every person with crazy plans needs understanding. Or it is very interesting to understand them atleast.

I really want an antagonist that lives up to Saren in 3...

The Illusive Man was alright... but it wasn't the same... there was no resolution.

We all can. We forgive Tali for believing in Genocide, don't we? If she went through with it however...

I'll put a bullet straight through her visor, even though it would kill me to do it.

I pray she listens.

Gosh, I leave to pick up a job application and all this gets away from me.

Liara is at a loss for words with Shepard after confronting Matriarch Benezia. There is -of course- only one solution to this problem.

Tall order to fill, really.  Saren was a special combination of strategic and personal capability.  TIM just has the strategic capability.

A TIM boss fight would probably be a little silly, with him climbing into a big mech or something.  Or, he's suddenly revealed to be a combat monster due to his hinted at cybernetics or something.  This route would be kind of intriguing, but since it wouldn't be apparent until the moment, he still wouldn't produce Saren-like anticipation of the conflict.

The difference is that Tali has already shown herself to be amenable to reason on the subject.
