My latest Tali/Shep project: Coup.
xxx
The restraints were top of the line; he would give them that, made tough enough to resist an enraged krogan. Brute force was not an option here. Its design was also free of any electronic activity, and only with the proper key, or keys if he was in a particularly bad situation, could it be unlocked and the prisoner released. It was likely that the holder of said restraints was one of the four figures who were gave the order for his arrest. If he was lucky it was the traitor.

Oh, he hoped it was the traitor.

He tilted his head up for a minute regarding the space in front of him as the four holograms of his captors materialized from the turian Specter’s omnitool. Behind them stood a small squad of C-Sec agents; two turians, a human, and three asari all armed with what he could only assume were updated prototypes of his old HMW Weapon set. He missed those guns. He had fond memories of downing geth with the sniper on some frozen god forsaken planet in the Armstrong Cluster.

“Shepard.” Ah, of course he would be the first to address him. He said nothing, however, his head bowing back down in the direction of the floor. He allowed the silence to linger uncomfortably for a time taking a deep cleansing breath as he sat up as much as he was able in the chair. They looked about as he’d expected, their expressions ranging from the farce of benevolence, to open pleasure at his situation to silent apology from the Judas of the four.

“You have been charged with treason and conspiracy to usurp this council.” He almost quirked a smile at that. It figured that that was their concern; the status quo had always been central. That’s why they allowed the quarians to lose their homeworld. That’s why they authorized the usage of the genophage bioweapon. And that was why now they had him here, hidden in the bowels of the Presidium with a specter and a unit of C-sec with rifles and shotguns all pointed at him.

Pious, useless fools.

“How do you plead?” The asari’s voice betrayed a small hint of satisfaction. He’d initially thought her to be one of the reasonable ones. He was no longer fooled so easily. He took a deep breath and at last glanced upon the four, when he spoke, his voice was a deep baritone containing the faintest hint of bemusement.

“Guilty.”

I do pretty damn well, I think. <_<

Good luck, though I think you'd have an easier time finding wild buffalo.

No ****. I've been looking for over a year.

Okay:

"You're worried about little old me? I'm flattered," he inquired curiously, almost as if asking a child. Daro arched an eyebrow. Was this guy serious?

The bold part here stood out since it was considerably less formal than everything else.  Pretty much everyone has been "the human" or "the turian" or whatever previously.

Dray could detect a small trace of sadness in Xen's words, but kept silent, letting her continue.

The bold part seems to be from his perspective.  Everything else has been from hers.

Thematically, it seems she opens up real quick to an admitted outlaw.  Yeah, I get that she's an outsider, too, but she's previously been pretty untrusting all around.

You guys have a different take on Xen than I, however, as long as she's consistently realized as a character, I'm okay reading your version.  Maybe it'll take another chapter or two for that to become clear to me.

It's interesting, to say the least.

Wow. And I thought the 3 week job I had working with children was terrible. At least I still had skin by the end of it.

"Sanctimonious" maybe?

Pious means like "reverent" or "religious."

Thanks for the notes Buddha.

You might open up real quick too if your family was dead and you hadn't seen your only friend in months. She's been untrusting. She's insulted him left and right. He just keeps talking to her. Normaly people ignore her or revile her, if not by reputation then by her manners. He's stil listening.

I hope we keep your interest... though I doubt in our ability to impress you of all people.

No... I am unemployed.

That's fair.  She'd had a really f-ing long day, too.  Her defenses might have been down.  Like I said, I probably just don't have a good enough grasp of your Xen to make good character judgements.

It says something that in all that writing I only have tiny things to pick at.  I had a prof. tell me once that sometimes you read something and it just disarms what she called her "mental can opener" and you have a hard time finding anything really to criticize.

Fair enough then. Jones and I have litterly put over a 100 pages of Microsoft Word into planning this. It's easy to foget not everyone knows what we know. Try to work on that in the future...

I'll take that as a compliment then. Thank you.

Well, I found it. First post and response I ever made on here. First thing anyone said to me was "run for your damn life" by Gervaise. Really shaped my outlook on the thread... Brought me to be who my persona is today.

Yeah, I'm considering just retracting the trust statement I made.  The more I think about it, the more I realize I'm operating on what I personally believe about Xen.  However, maybe if you guys made a little more reference to why she's suddenly comfortable being playful or whatever with an alien...
