That's pretty much what we do, and even then a ****-ton of water seeps through.
If, like all mammals on earth have 5 digits per paw, all mammal(-analogue)s on Rannoch have 3, it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense if they wouldn't maintain either some sort of webbing in between them or a prehensile tongue.
And it wouldn't make sense for the quarians to lose this trait either.

So unless they cut the webbing (or genetically engineer it out of their DNA) between their fingers (which could very well be the case, less fragile surface area to be infected in their suits and possibly teared), I'm going for a larger tongue.

And this whole surface area thing for fingers isn't just for drinking, it's for swimming too, though that could be less of an issue if Rannoch is really that much more arid than Earth (or at least has less surface water).

Anyone consider that maybe they just lean in close an suck up the water? It's very easy to do.

Or maybe they have mouths in their hands like in Pan's Labyrinth!
Before anyone asks, that was a joke. B)

I think we can safely chalk this theory up to "No data available."

Until we can go... uhh... in depth with quarian biology or evolution, it's really just speculation.

Still... Prehensile tongue...

I'll be in my bunk.

To some extent, but it's not efficient (dang, I'm gonna need to use a new word for this) enough.
There's a reason not a single mammal on our planet uses this technique on a regular basis.

Seen it before.

I'm cool with either.

True, but that doesn't mean we can't assume the most logical course of evolution.
I know, I know, you all want quarians to look like humans (to some extent) and are basing their differences of our general physique.

But you have to realise, this is on an entirely different planet, their evolution may have had a similair end-result, but it almost certainly did not run the same course. Yes, we can use our hands like bowls, quarians might be able to do so as well, but it's not exactly the most probable course of action.

I don't really like the mandibles, but I'm fine with either tongue. :innocent:

And that's why it's so good. We can come up crazy, yet possible theories and no one can say that it's wrong, because they don't know if it's true or not. And that's how the discussion about who's right begins.Image IPB

Any less efficient than that would leave no reason to abandon your larger tongue.
I think it's safe to assume Tali's evolutionary ancestors did not always have thumbs the way they do now or walked on two legs, and again, it's safe to assume these used their tongue to drink water. (Or some messed up organic straw thingy :P)

With their less efficient bowl, they have no reason to abandon this trait like our species did.

Primitve humans would not have used that bowl, and modern ones wouldn't if they were drinking from a river. And it isn't safe to assume either of those things when you don't know what kind of environment quarians evolved in.

And I think you may be forgetting that quarians didn't evolve, they were created by artists. I take part in evolutionary discussions often, for things like reflective vs. luminescent eyes or curved shins vs. semi-digitigrade legs, because the assumptions I make apply regardless of environment. Speculating on things like prehensile tongues or whether or not they have hair is for purely aesthetic reasons, I don't see how you could possibly make a sound argument for things like them.

I tihnk its safe to say that their faces look pretty similar to ours, i mean Shepard kissed hjer, that must mean that they are at least similar...no? also the fact that he smiles means she must look nice. but we all know we does anyways :P and what she look slike under the helmet does not matter :P

You seem to misunderstand me.

Tali could have a prehensile tongue, talons, and a chitinous razor-sharp tail and I would still be cool with it.

I'm just saying we're speculating on speculation. Really, we just have to be patient.

That's why they shouldn't show Tali's face! If we dont know how she looks we activate our imagination and think about funny, beautiful or perverted things. :?

Suit or no suit. I'll still love her the same. It wasn't just the suit that made her so...attractive and adorable to begin with.

Here here!

Shepard saw her.

That's enough for me.

Still, I certainly won't complain when we see her face.
