If we're going to a direct correlation of quarian ages to human, I'd say Tali was about 18 when she was sent off to her Pilgrimage because I view the Pilgrimage as the quarian college experience. Even if that puts her at 20 and Shepard at 31, that's not anywhere catastrophic.

Pilgrimage =/= College.  In one your still learning a lot of things about life, the pilgrimage is a trial by fire.  If you go into the pilgrimage with the readiness that the average 18 year old goes into college, you're dead.  They have much more intense training and preparation, and college seems a lot more equatable to the 4 years of preparation before they leave on their pilgrimage to me.  The way I see it, the quarians do have college, we don't see the first 4 years, and the pilgrimage is the final test before graduation.

I did not mean to imply the Pilgrimage equaled college, merely that it took place during typical college years. The fact an 18 year old college bound human by today's standards seems ill equipped to survive the realities of life have more to do with societal upbringing than age.

I suspect Tali of being pushed to finish her schooling at an accelerated rate than her peers anyway.

There's a difference, Shep didn't exist for 2 years.  He was born 31 years ago, but for all legitimate applications to every day life, he has lived for 29 years.

He wasn't dead for 2 years either. This would imply that he was completely dead all the way up until the moment he accidentally woke up/Miranda woke him up during the Lazarus station attack. At some point during his rebuild, his heart had to start beating (even if not on its own) and his brain had to start firing electrical impulses. For all we know, this was accomplished after a year, making him 30. Or it happened after six months, making him 31.

While I'm no expert in reanimating meat and tubes into a fully functioning human being, I would be very surprised if regaining the processes that signify life wasn't just about the last thing that happened before he woke up.  There will always be unknowns with the Lazarus Project (considering its made up, ans Bioware themselves likely haven't thought it through too much,) but assuming that he was more in a coma for 2 years rather than nonexistent seems off to me.

I don't like imagining my Shepard that old anyway. Yeah, his facial structure doesn't help, but still.

What I want to know is where these supposed accusations of immaturity come from. The voice isn't enough to base that on.

I missed that accusation if there was one. Came into the discussion in the middle anyway, I suppose.

Frankly, Pacifien, we don't know the specifics so it's largely speculative.

Even I am old enough to make a move on Tali. But I don't want to ruin it for Shep...

It does take place during college years, the very end of college years when you're ready to go into the real world and succeed.  That's my whole point.  Tali on her pilgrimage is like a college student about to graduate, not an incoming freshman.  Accelerated upbrining or not, she would not have been ready for her pilgrimage at 18, but she clearly was at 22.

It's strange how we talk about if Tali is old enough to do it, but we never ask if she's old enough to kill.

None.

It's an open system.

I never understood the whole little sister thing that gets thrown a lot either.*snip*

I do. I like her, but I don't romance her. If I figure her and my Shepard to be particularly close, it would be as a little sister just as much as Garrus is a brother. I can see people not wanting to do the romance because that's how they view the character: family rather than romance.

Because they are on the Flotilla but I bet they had some on their homeworld.

You know, Romeo and Juliet were sixteen and fourteen years old, respectively, when they did it. Yet no one is throwing fits about that.

Does it really matter how old either character is? Do these speculative connotations really bother you so, or the accusations?

They are mostly salvagers who trade what they've found for other things. So far as the Quarian economy goes, it's very little in the way of personal belongings. A lot of things are shared because of their circumstance.

Credits seem pretty universal in the ME universe, and quarians have been around long enough that they would certainly be integrated into the currency system.  I doubt they use them much for everyday life on the flotilla though, considering their lifestyle, it would be more for trade I imagine.

It matters when people accuse us of being rapists for romancing Tali.

Hey. Just thought I'd mention that my second entry to my new fan fic series is up! I've introduced several new characters including a Biotic Quarian, Kaila'Ila nar Neema. I've included 3 codex entries for the prologue and 6 codex entries for chapter 1 to expand upon the universe.

Prologue
Chapter 1: Awakened Potential

That's what I'm doing: speculating. That's what people do for the most part on forums.

But I still maintain that Shepard is 31 no matter when he regained some semblance of life. I never understood this desire to cling to the age of 29 other than some inherent belief that 30 has pushed you over the hill by society's standards.

Because back then it wasn't as talked about like it is now.
