Oh, and if I want to hear Tali's opinion on keeping the base, I'm just saying it, right? Because I just want to hear her say it, and then say: "Nah, you're right, Tali. Let's blow this thing and go home."

Pretty much, yes.

Maybe Gecko-like skin.

Had to comment on this.  So I was reading about arid environment evolution.  You may be closer than you know.  Many lizard like creatures in arid environments have skin designed to absorb water from the air through their skin.  Considering the "fog" in quarian suits, this could be an explanation for this.

This is also true of turians, I am guessing. With the higher radiation present on their planets, I am guessing the turian homeworld is also significantly more arid as well. Since turians do seem to be modeled after chitinous creatures (closest desert equivalent would be a scorpion), I could definitely see quarians modeled after a lizard like predator. Especially with the legs and hands.

If this theory about absorption is correct, it would also explain the lower body temperature theory some of us fans like to use in the fiction. ~_^ As their skin would absorb moisture, the skin would naturally be cooler to the touch than humans.

Just a thought.

the only gripe I have about this is the fact that Legion says that Ranoch is only slightly more arid than earth, so quarians being desert lizard people just dosent make any sense to me, it not like they live on Tattooine.

Edit:also I think in Ascension I think Grayson specifically mentions the tortured quarians skin being burned ect. you would think scales would be different enough to be differentiated from skin.

It doesn't make sense, but really, do you want it to? ;)

In the big scheme of things, Arizona is only slightly more arid than Texas.

There's still a big difference.

Yeah, i think people run with the whole "more arid" thing way too much.  a planer that's 65% water would be more arid than earth.  There's nothing that hints at it being a desert like Thane's planet, and if anything, the garden world description makes me think its a lot closer to Earth than the other way.  I really don't expect anything other than human skin.  Baby soft and sensitive human skin from lack of exposure of course

Which raises another point.
Not the entire planet is one climate.

yes but Texas for the most part is ignificantly more arid then most other places in the country. Were talking about an entire planets eco system not regions on the planet.

Edit: Granted slightly can be a very relative phrase but Legion being a Geth is probably thinking in logical/mathematical terms so this would lead me to think that the difference is at most a percentage point or two probably less.

You've obviously never been to Texas.

I bet you think we all ride horses and say "y'all" on a bi-minute basis.

Arizona is a LOT more arid than Texas.

It's so humid here that every time I leave my house my glasses fog up.

I think you all should think of that BW designed the quarians out of a artistically viewpoint. I doubt that they drew the quarian's legs with just practical uses or biological evolution in mind.

It's more likely that they made them that way just to they'd look alien and cool.

You're not thinking on a large enough scale, like a machine would think.

Of course, and I'm sure they also didn't have evolutional repercussions in mind for random facts like the quarians transmit the pollen on their planet, or that Rannoch is slightly more arid than Earth.  That's what you do on forums, examine things closer than the game developers ever did =]

true. Also note, the skin I am talking about is not scaled - simply slightly tougher than a humans. It would be cooler to the touch, and smooth. Not scaled.

A more arid environment would also indicate that they would likely not release excess water as humans do, is all I am saying.

dude I lived in Houston for 15 yearsImage IPB, (loved it by the wayImage IPB) but any where near the gulf is going to have a humid swqamp feel, but the further away you get it gets progressively  morre arid. I mean the difference between houston and dallas is huge right there now go further toword Elpaso and the difference only grows. But seriously how awsome is Texas like on every level! A veritable land of awsome and a culture and history filled with bad asses.

This talk of water reminds of an alien idea I once had, where it's a race of fish people who walk around offworld in sealed suits that run a thin layer of water over their bodies to keep them hydrated.

The point that I'm getting at, is that unless I'm mistaken, "garden world," implies that there are still jungles and grassland all over the planet as well.  If there are a few more deserts than Earth, that wouldn't be enough to guarantee a drastic change in evolution.  Obviously there are tons of variables in evolution anyway, but we can pretty much see that the quarians followed pretty close to the human path.  I think random variables are a lot better support to the whole different skin theory than the more arid climate.  I see the more arid climate thing as something that means nothing being pulled out of thin air to make a random fact for a conversation.
