I definitely agree on the music. I prefer mostly intrumental to get going but I have quite a few different 'writing' playlists. I've been a big fan of a number of old metallica songs covered by a very talented pianist as good mood setters.

Ooh, care to share the name of the pianist? And if his/hers work is availeble in some form?

I dont have access to my MP3s at the moment but do a search on youtube for 'Metallica Piano Cover' and look for one of Turn the Page. Think that artist is the only oen to have covered that song.

The shaking hips motion would seem to imply it is a reference to 'dem hips'.
Of course the answer to her question is 'For this' followed by much heavy petting by Shepard.

One of the tricks i do  is  I write the beginning and then I write the ending of my story... then i work my way from point A to point b. I have  found that helps  keeps things in order so you don't have characters going in complete oddball directions..  Another is music, music, music, and music,  I song for almost every scene in my story and I listen to everything from  R&B/Soul to  J-pop/rock.

I generally try to have a story outline so I know where I'm going next, then fill in the details from there.

I have everything, though, from old school Run DMC to bagpipes depending on my mood.

most of instrumental  music comes from  Video Sountrack's and movie/tv show scores ... I love the Battlestar Galatica  remake sound track its some really good dark music  for setting that sense of  doom with tracks line  Something dark is coming and Crossroads but  something gritty and tough like Dirty Hands.

Right now I am going to through and looking for a theme for Tali/Shep i was want  something   rather uplifting and freeing... i find myself hovering around something from Euereka  Seven Soundtrack

Hah, Tali knows the truth.Image IPB

Can't see her third pair of toes, though. Unless that thin line at her right heel is supposed to be it.

If I ever start drawing again I'll make sure it's there.
A lot of people seemed to be bugged about that

To me, it looks like she would imply to her enviro-suit which is snug in all the right places... And of course, dem hips too.

Some random songs I've used as backdrops for scenes:

Slipknot - Snuff for the scene between Shepard and Liara, and afterwards.

Nocturne no 9 for the destruction of the Normandy.

AC/DC back in black for Horizon.

Out of curiosity do you have any writing training as such or are you just naturally good at it?

English degree here.

I will say that I have known people with english degrees (mostly college professors) that couldn't write their way out of a paper sack.

But Buddha definitely isn't one of those. To quote Little Nicky he 'is the shiznit'.

You know, getting a degree like that isn't really much about writing.  Sure, you do a lot of it, but it's pretty standard essay stuff.  Out of all my coursework, only 9 hours was actual creative writing, and I could've taken other stuff instead.

The real skill you learn is how to read and interpret.

Makes sense. I'm sure the whole logical thinking process helps out a little, though.

It's also good if one has a personal style when it comes to writing.

Me? One of the things I lack is a good vocabulary, and the ability to know where to put what.

Yeah, reading critically is a good skill to have if you can apply it to your own work.  It's kinda painful, though.  And the ridiculous amount of writing you have to expose yourself to is probably beneficial, too.

I'm not sure I'd recommend an English degree (there are legitimate fears about not being able to use it to get a job).  I ended up working in a science-related field myself.

Edit:  One I had no formal schooling for, that is.

As I mentioned a page or two back: read, read lots. Really is no better way to increase your vocabulary that I've found.

Yeah. I'm currently in CIS, with no intention of switching to English.
