Actually, where's that one picture that looks like a five-year-old's drawing of Tali, Shepard, and Legion holding hands?

It's a great picture, but isn't putting a hoodie on Tali redundant?

Here's a question, Tali thread...

I'm working on a fic concept that would enable Tali to remain out of her suit. See below if you want to know the details.

Once out of her suit, I wonder what Tali would do for clothing. I'm sure she'd start off by simply wearing the suit, sans helmet, but in the long run, what do you think she'd wear, and who would she turn to for fashion advice? Would she continue to hide her face, out of a need for privacy, or would she proudly display it to everyone?

I have a very cute mental image of her stealing one of Shepard's old blue Alliance jumpsuits from the original Normandy (ME1 casual wear) and wearing that around.

For those interested, my idea involves Mordin engineering an immune system from the ground up using the human adaptive immune system (T-cells and the like) as a blueprint. The procedure involves modifying existing Quarian bone marrow to produce the required cells, eventually replacing all of the subject's marrowt. Needless to say, it's very painful, (think existing bone marrow transplants x100) but the reward is an immune system that can combat both dextro and levo protein based threats.

People like Tali inspires heroes to go on Roaring Rampages of Revenge.  Here's hoping Shepard gets one.

Anyway, I'm out, silly thread.  See you later.

First off, let me say that this story idea intrigues me greatly.  I'm playing with the same concept in Beneath the Veil, although the particulars are radically different.  The one thing that I would caution is that it is extremely difficult to describe Tali's actions sans suit without knowing what she looks like.  I've been quite surprised on how much conversations and character interaction rely on the ability to describe Tali's face or reactions via her face.

As to what she would wear, I tend to think that she would move towards a more revealing outfit.  Again I addressed this in BtV:

The Geth had tried to anticipate Quarian needs when they had converted this portion of the station into a clean room. As such, a mirror had been built into the wall, allowing Tali to take the opportunity to observe her new outfit. Quarian style had stagnated over the past three hundred years, as their suit's functionality became more important then their ascetic beauty. Upon the Citadel, and within other realms of 'high fashion', women were expected to wear long dresses that covered them from sole to neck. Quarians, however, deviated substantially from this expectation, thanks in large part to those three hundred years covered from head to foot in rubber and fabric. To put it bluntly, Quarian clothing tended to be revealing.

I like your idea of how to solve their immune problems, especially because Shepard could be used as the "donor" for Mordin to build her bloodmarrow on.  The intense pain is also an interesting prospect, as you could really explore this operation as being the final sacrifice she has to made to finally be free.

I'd rather not put Tali through pain, but that's the only way I can see a suit removal happening. As far as I know, bone marrow produces blood cells, so any kind of permanent immune system change would require a complete bone marrow replacement. Existing bone marrow transplant procedures are *very* painful from what I've heard.

I think I'll have Mordin simply put her under a medically induced coma throughout the length of the procedure through recovery. I don't plan on having Tali experience anything other than residual pain when she wakes up. I do, however, envision her removing her mask long before Mordin finishes all the tests he thinks necessary:

Mordin: ...initial battery of existing Quarian diseases... require two weeks for analysis. Then proceed to Turian pathogens to examine adaptation to fellow dextro-protein illnesses - another week. *deep breath* Human and Asari diseases final test. Adaptation to levo-protein viruses largest variable in...

*Tali pulls offer her mask, taking a deep breath of the ship's unfiltered air.*

Mordin: ... or we can just progress straight to field trials. *sigh*

I can understand your reasoning as to why Quarians would wear revealing clothes, but I don't think a culture would shift that rapidly to the other extreme. Traditional Muslims living in secular countries, even when not wearing headscarves or burkas, tend to dress in a conservative fashion. I think she would dress practically at first (some kind of jumpsuit or engineering garb), but probably seek out her fellow crew mates for advice on fashion. I doubt Quarian culture has kept up on clothing trends. Even if it did, there would be no reason to produce any non-envirosuit clothing. Tali would have to modify clothing designed for another race, or have something tailor made.

She's probably have to keep the boots from her suit, though - I just can't see her getting Quarian-specific footwear anywhere.

To be fair, my story puts Tali out of her suit nearly two years after the Quarians have returned to Rannoch; thus giving the race as a whole time to go through the stages you outlined.  I must say that I find her keeping any sort of hood or veil hard to believe, as she stated that she wished to walk "bear beneath the sun like our ancestors" (or something like that).

As to the "I'd rather not put Tali through pain", I'm a bit contested on that issue.  I understand the concerns, but you could use the procedure as the final hurdle for her freedom.  Especially if it takes awhile (multiple procedures) to complete, you could have a touching conversation between herself and Shepard where Shep asks her if its really worth it.  But perhaps my views on this are colored by my leanings (at least according to NuclearBuddha) towards 'sensationalism'.

Either way... Good Luck if you choose to write it. ;)
